Question

My Godspeed kit disks are marked up in such a way that the grooves will rotate with the leading edge on the inside. This is opposite to what the AP and Prodrive disks do. Can anyone elaborate? I thought the idea was to fling the dust and heat outwards and at the same time deglazing the pad?
Cheers

It does tend to vary between manufacturers. My EBC Turbogroove disks have the leading edge on the inside too. Probably best to fit them as the manufacturer intended, just to be on the safe side.

Hope this helps.

Cheers Andrew. It would be nice to get a technical overview as well from somebody in the 'know.

The direction of the groove externally on the disc is not imperative.

What is more important is the direction of the inner vanes (with the AP Racing discs anyway).

There are curved vents between the braking surfaces on the AP discs, which sets up a fan motion. This in turn pulls cool air in at the centre which flows through between the back faces of the disc hence promoting more efficient heat dissipation.

I believe the idea (though not the sole purpose)of the leading edge at the top style grooves is to prevent the red hot pad material being thrown out directly onto the wheel and causing surface damage.

Not all discs have 'vaned' vents between the disc faces, so dependant upon manufacturer Etc.

Follow manufacturers recommendations.

Mike.

Cheers Mike, makes sense! The ribs between the 2 surface plates on mine look straight so I guess it's less important which way round they go.
