Question

I have a problem removing my locking wheelnuts, I seem to remember a thread on the bbs about how to remove them but can't find it.
Took the car into my dealer who said that the previous dealer has put them on too tight. He is warning that they may damage my wheels getting them off. Have arranged to take car back in to them next week but thought I'd check here first.
Can anybody tell me how they have got them off, when the special locking bolts are actually opening the holes in the nuts and making them oval.
Obviously don't tell me on the board, but if you can email me I would be obliged.

Thanks
Steve

Steve, call Tyres Northampton. Just say ScoobyNet (they'll understand )and ask for Mark or Elvis - or any of the fitters really. Tel 01604-588599.

Mark gave me a tip last week - never torque up your lock nut as tight as the others, as if it does get jammed tight with corrosion or whatever, you'll likely strip the special locking keys by heaving on it. Then he said "but most of them are a waste of time anyway - I could get that off in under ten seconds!"

It's not rocket science, but I'm not going to post the answer here!

Richard

If the mechanic uses an air gun to remove the wheelnuts this should get them off no problem, the air guns use pressure and if they can't turn they then go into reverse for a split second. This is like rocking something back and forth to get enough momentum.

If its the lock nuts with little dowels, it could be a problem. If these seize on, its normally a case of drilling them off.

The standard Subaru lock nuts are a piece of cake.

If the nut is siezed and you put an air gun on it, you will probably snap the dowels off of the key nut. Which means instead of one problem, you may have four problems.

If this happens, remove the other three that aren't siezed first!!
