Question

I changed the 2pot front disks and calipers on MY98 to a second hand set of 4pot MY99-00 ones recently. I also changed the pads to Mintex M1155 all round. I've 400 miles up on them at this stage so they should be well driven in. I'm delighted with the improvement in braking performance to say the least.

Unfortunately I have two problems with them now:

1. One of the front disks has developed a dark coloured score half way round the circumference of the disk. The score, which is at the top of the disk, is roughly 10 mm across and 1 mm deep at its widest. This score has been there since the new brakes were fitted. It was not evident when the disks were being installed.

2. There is now a squealing noise coming from the brakes once when the car comes close to a stop. This happens under normal everyday driving conditions and is extremely annoying.

Any suggestions welcome....

I checked under the pads yesterday evening. I could not find anything obvious under them. The was no uneven wear on the pads either.

The squealing noise is still there. I'll search for other threads on this subject anyhow.

Thanks for the reply.

we have the same problem at work so all we do is take the pads out and deglaze them with some wet n dry the noise will stop but it will eventually come back.
some times grooved discs stop the noise coz they are constantly de glazing them as you brake.
