Caliper paint...
#1
I've got a silver car with silver wheels and have painted the calipers red. Looks much much better that the old rusty grey they were. I also put hamerite smooth black on the rotor that the wheel attaches to as they were rusty too.
I got my stuff from Halfords. Make sure you have plenty of time on your hands and don't rush. Rub the calipers down first with wirebrush and then fine emery paper.
You first spray on cleaner which makes the two pack bond better to the metal. You don't need to take anything apart, only take the wheels off!
Once you mix up the 2 part solution make sure you leave it for 10 mins before applying to caliper to cure otherwise it will run after you put it on.
An easy DIY job but take your time.

I fancy a go at painting my brake calipers, but Ive never done anything like it before...
Ive just got a 94 WRX STI in silver with silver speedlines...
I take it I need to take the things off away from the discs first!?
Not a clue how this is done. Is it easy?
Not even sure where the jacking points are yet, didnt get a manual...
Any recommendations on make/type of caliper paint, methods of painting etc...
What colour dya reckon with silver car + silver wheels?
Any comments/help greatly appreciated...

Must be a silver thing - I have a silver UK95 and have painted them gold!
Like Gethin said, it is really easy but take your time. You're supposed to leave the wheels off for 2 hours after painting - applying two coats allowing 15 - 20 mins between them. I only had one jack so put the wheel back on to do the next but I left it for 24 hrs to dry properly.
Just watch as you put the wheel on you don't scrape off any of the wet paint!
Use a jam jar to mix the paint / hardener - I used a plastic pint cup for the first two and after 30 mins it started melting through the bottom
You can cover all the visible area without having to remove the calipers themselves. And it looks the dogs orbs!

Hmmm, cheers guys.
Sounds like you've got to take care that you dont get paint on your discs too!(or the spray-on cleaner...)
Ok, what about a manufacturer?
Is any make better than another?
What sort of price am I looking at?
Yeah, red might look the canines globes !!

Mark, yep just make sure if you get some on the discs you wipe it away quickly. Obviously it's designed to withstand high temeratures when dry and won't rub away easily from the disc surface.
I can't say I took much care keeping the cleaner off the discs when spraying, it seemed to evaporate away from shiny surfaces in any case.
Got mine from a motor shop and it is Autotec (sp??). They also do it in halfords and places like demon-tweeks - I think it's the general product leader (never seen any other makes!)
Careful with getting it on your hands too - it's strong stuff. I rubbed my nose and it started bleeded straight away - perhaps should have waited till my cold had gone!
Neil, red or gold (wouldn't notice silver). I reckon red! Will be doing my other halfs GTI in red (red car).
There's plenty included too - still have over 1/3 left after 4 callipers.
