Question

I know the budget brake upgrade subject has been done again and again, but as I will be doing my first trackday soon I have a question. I have mintex 1144s on std 4pots and disks, will these be good enough? As I will be due for a service before that I'll get the dealer to change the fluid, what would you recommend and would it have any effect on my warranty?

Mintex 1144's are a fast road pad and will I suspect 'go off' relatively quickly if pushed hard.

If you are on standard discs it will happen even faster. Consider Black Diamond discs and at least Mintex 1155's or Pagid Blue's for the track and you will be out a lot longer.

Get the dealer to change the fluid to AP Racing Dot 5.1?

Mike.

Question

I need to replace my disc's and pads both front and rear on MY99. Black Diamond seem to be being voted as better for the front, but drilled or grooved ? What about the rear all I have seen is solid discs advertised but my standard ones are vented. Don't really want to do the big upgrade as I don't need to do track days.

Question

Mike,
I was going to get the 1155s but prodrive, PE and mintex insisted that they are not for road use, would there be any one there on the day (knockhill in march) that could stick the 1155s on if I brought a set with me( i am totally cack handed mechanically)
cheers for the help

When I test drove my RB5WR the brakes were awful for the first 10 or 15 minutes - no real stopping power which was quite worrying coming into bends. Having compared back-to-back with a standard UK car that was my only concern.

When the dealer checked, they said the previous owner had put the Mintex 1155s in and as there weren't really a road pad, they needed to warm up before use!

I got them changed before I bought the car. If I had the 1155s in, I certainly wouldn't like to try doing an 'ohnoooooo' stop on a wet motorway after cruising for a while!!

Andy, go for the grooved discs. They are less prone to cracking. As for pads, I have not used the Mintex pads before so cannot comment (makes a change!), but I have used the pagids before and they are very good.

Thumbs up

i have run both the 1144 and 1155 pads in my p1.(1144) they are fine for most road use and i have done 2 track days on them but are almost worn out, also lasted about 4k of road use.1155 are so so on road but much better on track, can give plenty of squeal on road use.uprating to blue brake fluid helps and so does braided lines which are my next plan.mdm
