Please could somebody explain what they mean when they refer to the offset of the wheel and why this is critical to choice....

Also what is the sensible maximum size wheel tyre combo i could fit on my car ( I am going to upgrade the brakes to Ap 4 pots, if this makes any difference !!)???

And lastly what does MY..... stand for ???

Sorry for being so dumb .......

Welcome to Scoobynet!

Offset (or inset) is the measurement of the relationship of the flange of the wheel that bolts to the hub in relation to the centreline of the wheel. I.e. if the bolting flange is 10mm inside or outside of the centre line of the wheel it is 10mm inset or offset.

It is important because it can alter suspension geometry, foul bodywork/suspension, put excessive loads on wheel bearings etc if outside the recommended offset.

Max size, check the archives for what suits you, lots of posts on this. Dictated partly by above.

MY = Model Year.
