Hi,
I've got a MY99 5 door, about 18 months old with 21,500 miles.
Recently, the front brakes have started to squeal, usually only under light braking. I thought that the noise was only happening when the brakes where cold / wet, but it seems to be happening more and more often.
I had the brakes checked at the last service, and the car is due its 22.5K service in the new year.
Anybody else had similar problems ?
Is it possible that the pads need replacing ?
Thanks,
Andrew

Andrew,
My MY00 4 door has about 10,500 on the clock.
Brakes squeal a little bit on light braking too. It's not bad, so I'm not worried at the moment.
Your problem could be a few things:
Unevenly worn / worn out pads (or disc).
Sticky caliper piston.
Foreign body (like a stone) trapped between pad and disc.
etc etc
Assuming you have alloy wheels, you should be able to see the condition of the discs and how much friction material is left on the pads. Bad scoring on a disc might indicate a trapped stone.
Are you sure the noise is coming from the front?
A loose bit of friction material from one of your handbrake shoes, having nowhere to go, would be trapped and will squeal like hell!
If you're worried about the safety of your brakes, get them checked.
Have a nice Christmas etc
