I have had this package on my97 for 5 months and apart from going through two sets of wheels due to brake dust welding on them and the grooves on the discs nearly gone, they are supurb!!!! Is this general wear and tear as i have only done about 4000 miles and the ridges on the discs are unbelievable. Is this acceptable, or do i have a case with prodrive. The pads work very well but seem to hard and sparks can be seen at night. I have ruined two sets of wheels!!! Not happy.
Thoughts please

Reading various posts the pads that originally came with these kits were DS3000, I understand that some people have had them changed to DS2000 FOC by dealers to overcome wheel dirt problems and disc wear. Mike Wood might want to confirm this.

Contact your dealer - FYI new discs are £600.
4k miles is not a good wear rate for discs

Once again, the Prodrive input is noticeably absent when a customer has an issue. No doubt, they will be there promoting their wares favourably in other posts about suspension kits, superior E marked back boxes and correctly offset rims.

Seems to have become a noticeable trend

Sorry for the scepticism but someone prove me wrong

Nozzer Prodrive are currently developing a new brake pad. I have done 7000miles on my Alcon kit fitted new to my P1 and my front wheels are shagged. Car has its 7500 mile service on monday and I suspect that the discs are shagged aswell as they are cracked and worn. I have been told that I will get new wheels when the new pads are available and new discs. We`ll see..........
Stick by your guns as the brake pads are not designed for road use at all.

Had the car on the ramps yesterday and the disks are wearing away at an alarming rate. Only done 4000 miles with the brake setup and the disks will have to be replaced and new wheels are going on today.

The burnt bits on the wheel do come off with a half round file.

Great news, now at least we know they are dealing with issues offline.

Well lets hope I get a reply from Prodrive.
Had the wheels changed today to P1 wheels and P-zero tyres. The disks are shagged there is a large lip at the top of the disk and the spiral groves are almost gone. The pads are still very good and do not need changing. I think I will need two sets of disks to every new set of pads.
Have Prodrive found a solution?
The fitter tells me the pads are the problem, they are just eating the disks and leaving my wheels in a terrible state. My dealer tried to clean my wheels and gave up saying they will have to be refurbished. How long will my new P1 wheels last before they require changing again? The Mims only lasted 5 months.

Bob, try and wax the wheels a few times before they go on the car and use a wax wizard brake dust guard too. Also, although its raining and cold, try and wash them without the use of any strong alloy wheel cleaners on a regualr basis.

If they still eat your new rims, then ask the offending manufacturer to supply a new set!

Sunil, I know you mean well with the 'try and wax the wheels a few times', but the DS3000 brake dust is able to, um, attack wheels that have the whole Wax Wizzard stock smeared onto them (even when done personally by Mark ).

Last time this issue came up, I put on a very outspoken reply, contacted SDB about it, and edited my post, not wanting to stir unneeded sh*t.

This time, I would like to STRONGLY advise anyone with DS3000 pads (whether they came with the Prodrive/Alcon set or not) to replace them ASAP with DS2000. It might save a lot of money to a lot of people in the end.

I hope that recommendation is clear.

Still, what puzzles me most is that the brake dust with the DS3000 pads was actually the least of my problems. My main problem was: brake performance when stone cold... but I haven't seen that echoed yet in the different threads.

Every brake setup is a compromise. DS3000 pads are the dogs danglies on a circuit. But they do use quite a lot of disc material, and the dust (actually, a spectacle when viewed in the dark, more like glowing metal sparks) will eat into anything it encounters.

Compromises are OK, no problem there, but you need to know all sides before you can make them.

Hope I didn't **** off too many people, but I stand by my recommendation.

My main concern at the moment is the disks. The amount of metal that has been worn off by the pads perhaps its this metal that has gone onto my wheels as the blackish marks on the wheels are now going rusty. Soon I will have no disks left. Perhaps I should have left my old wheels on until the problem is sorted. I don’t know what sort of pads I have as I ordered the kit at my dealers who ordered it from Prodrive and was not told what pads were going on.

Thanks for the recommendation about the pads but I’m afraid it’s a bit late for me, after spending £1400 ish on the 17” Mims/tyres and now another £950 on P1 wheels and tyres.
Combined with the £1500 ish for the brake package I’m a very unhappy bunny.

Bob, understand the "unhappy bunny" bit very well, but I initially thought I was the only one with complaints ... Sorry if I didn't help your case.

Let's just hope something good comes from all of this.

Bob, all Ferodo pads have the model number stamped or printed on them, if you or the dealer were to take the pads out you would know which ones you have installed on your car !

Sorry if this is no help.

Question

I had a Prodrive disk & pad upgrade. (Not the Alcon set). The IM part numbers are:
Front discs SACC2470
Front pads SACC2471
Rear pads SACC2472
Am I going to get the same problem?

Question

I was under the impression that the Alcon kit had DS2000 Fitted? And not Ds3000???

Bob, from your description of your type of probs, I would bet a crate of Stella that you have the DS3000. Do yourself a favor, have the discs checked, and ask the dealer to temporarily put on DS2000 pads until the problems are cleared. P1 wheels are lovely (have'm as well), so they deserve better.

Nozzer, my memory tells me the same thing. I'm pretty sure I read somewhere on here a year ago that they came with DS2000 (where's that search function when you need it ).

But at least since august (when I bought them), and probably since the beginning of this year, they are shipped with DS3000.

Could be wrong about previously being shipped with DS2000, but I'm 100% sure about them being shipped with DS3000 now.

Here's a picture of my brakes, which after 9000 miles are shot to buggery.

As you can see in the left red circle, the brake dust is all rusty coloured and consists of iron fallout from the disks. This not only sticks like hell, but goes rusty. The wheels were cleaned the morning of this photo, so they are as clean as can be.

The right red circle shows the grooves in the disk almost completely worn away.

After seeing an article about brakes in Evo mag, mentioning that standard Porshe brakes have a 35,000 mile lifespan, I find 9,000 miles unacceptable.

The dealer have offered to replace the whole lot, but only when Subaru actually manage to send the correct parts. I've been waiting for two weeks now.

Not very good all in all.

I've just been on a track day in my Puma running DS3000's. They stopped the car on a sixpence but now the disks are away being skimmed. There was also nothing left of the pads either so a double whammy!

I'm sorry I didn't reply earlier Sunil, but as Ian says I do not spend all day, every day logged onto my computer.

If you have a problem with the brake kit fitted to your car, please contact your dealer. They will need the following information. Registration number, chassis no, date and milage at brake kit fitting, current mileage, wheel and tyre spec, disc thickness and condition, pad thickness and previous usage.

Once they have these details they can then contact Prodrive direct so we can take the necessary steps.

Do you think I should change the Pads as Evilbevel suggest before I ruin another set of wheels.
