Question brake pads

i know you lot are probably sick of this question but i am well confused.
going to replace front and rear pads on my 98 turbo 5 door (twin pots).

fancy giving red stuff or green stuff a try but reading previous posts has really confused me .

which is best for fairly regular hard driving.

FERODO do pads for £25:99 in Halfords .....

If you're no RoyBacer these will be fine and dandy - my first pads are still going strong after 49,000miles!

If you do tracks and rallies then get the expensive stuff - but if not keep your money in your pocket!

Just my Yorkshireman opinion!

Sound advice Mr Lewis It's been 3 years in the coming At last someone else who doesn't see the point in spending a fortune on something you don't need. £30 Halfords £90 same thing but with the word performance or Subaru on the box

to be fair there is a large difference between a replacement Ferodo pad and even Ferodo's own ds2500 hi-perf. pad!! depends on what you are wishing to achieve and how you drive..................

I am a little too long in the tooth to get hoodwinked by all this, 'RedStuff' 'BlueStuff' 'GreenStuff' ....... it's all BrownStuff and smelly to me!

Come on, if you drive sensible, do not do tracks and haven't squeezed 650BHP out of the poor engine then a set of £25 Pads are going to suit you absolutely fine!

I once bought a microwave that could weigh your food, cook it precisely, measure the temperature, hold it warm until you arrived home and cost me £299 because all the features looked 'really' good and useful .......... I used it in EXACTLY the same way as I did my later £29 microwave!

In short, its a waste of money buying performance you don't need!

IMHO of course!

Well I'm one to disagree. I went from a 306gti6 that had fabulous brakes, to a standard uk spec turbo with standard brakes.Several times had the aaargh no brakes, feeling coming up to roundabouts. The pagid RS 4.2.1 and DS 2500 pads did make a difference, but in defference to your views, whether they make a 3 X the price difference, i'd doubt it.
But they were an improvement, and the first time your brakes fail you may very well be your last. I never skimp on tyres or brakes, it just isnt worth the risk IMHO.

I never said sacrifice safety - I merely indicated that brake pad dealers 'may' be hoodwinking some into buying performance they don't need.

My SUBARU pads have lasted well into the 49,000miles now - I wouldn't call them bad brakes? Subaru wouldn't get away with fitting sub-standard brake pads.

As I said, if you drive like a lunatic on drugs then you may need superior stopping power - if you can drive properly then there's no need to spend fortunes on the new generation of so-called 'Performance Pads'.

When I learnt how to drive I was told that you should never need to brake at all - and if you did then you had failed. Everytime you brake your money is converted into heat on the discs! Think about it!

The only way that you can ever feel like, '**** I'm not going to stop' is if you are travelling too fast ........................ it really IS as simple as that!

IMHO as I said
