Question

Is it true that stainless steel braided hoses are not road legal - and if so - why?

Cheers,

Err, no it's not true. We sell Goodridge Hoses and far from being 'not road legal', they are actually TUV approved.

Question

Mike,

I also have a set of Goodridge hoses - sorry I didn't get them from you - however it clearly states that unless the label is stamped TUV/DOT approved then they are for competition use only. And the label is NOT stamped - hence probably not road legal - this is also mentioned in a number of other sources.

Are there two types of Goodridge hose available - one approved and one not - OR is it simply that I can't read

Cheers,

R

Just to maintain the consistency of my policies, allow me to say that I (whoever that may be - private or business) sell platinum, as well as yellow, white and pink gold and, yes, it is all legitimate and legal. Not to mention I have spent a long time making my specially developed precious metals meet CE, TUV, UL and many other world-wide standards of approval.

Discounts, price sheets, big smiles and whatever else required (money in particular, please!) available on request.

welcome to the show!

q.

PS. This is, of course, a bad attempt to be funny, but you know I am not too good at that.

PS2. David, instead of inadvertently generating commercials on the bbs, just dial the Goodridge UK Ltd. number, ask for their sales dept. and they will answer the questions you asked.

q,

it clearly states on the label of the box that unless the hoses are marked TUV/DoT then that are not for road use.

They are not marked and my question is really as to why they wouldn't be road legal. Just seems a bit odd that is all. This is also raised on a couple of vendors web sites and in Training WRX.

Seems daft to me - making your car brake better makes it less road legal - or are they more prone to failure?

Cheers,

David

I have just received an E-mail from Goodridge about this subject and it is stated that there is no legislation covering these parts in the UK and the DOT and TUV relate to USA and Germany. My interpretation is that there is no legal reason as to why braided hoses can not be used in this country. Of course my interpretation could be wrong.

Thumbs up

Brendan.

You are pretty much spot on, there is no approval for UK.

David
So to conclude your question, yes they are road legal (better stronger, Etc).

No need to phone the manufacturer as if suppliers have the necessary product knowledge, your questions can be answered here.

The normal kits are not TUV approved, TUV approved kits are available (cost approx 20% more than normal kits but not necessary).

Mike,

thank you for the fuller answer - I am assauged.

It was more of an 'information only' question - I am fitting them anyway - my view is that they are more road legal than a downpipe for example.

All Scooby mods are road legal - it is just that some are more road legal than others

Well, for motorbike use the deal is

Steel fittings = raod legal
Alloy fittings = race only

Can't see why the same would not apply to cars!
