are my AP drilled discs safe ?
#1
hi there
i have noticed that my AP drilled discs have started to develope cracks around the holes. the cracks go half way around the discs.
is that safe for normal use ? could these discs actually break ? anyone heard of such a thing?
cheers

Sam.
Drilled discs are weaker than other discs because of the drilling. If you are seeing cracks appear I would suggest you consider new discs, grooved ones this time though.

My Drilled AP's have similar cracks. My cracks appear to be small surface ones around the drilled holes.
I first noticed them about 3 months ago (the disks have done about 15k miles). So to be safe I ordered a set of 8 grooved disks and replacement bolt kit (you re-use the bells but tend to change the mounting bolts).
Since a few more track days were coming up I decided I wouldn't swap the disks just yet - you know, get that last bit of wear out of them. Well that was 2 track days ago and hopefully Brands to come and they have been fine.
So to answer your question, you will probably be fine on the road for a while, but order in some replacements (grooves are the recommended option) and change them when you feel comfortable.
