Question

While braking in reverse gear the front brakes make a strange noise. It sounds like 2 pieces of metal hitting each other. This only happens for the first time I press the brakes. (noise sounds like a loud "click")

Is this normal? or should I investigate it further.

Thumbs up

Yes it's normal, it is the pads settling back in the caliper. Nothing to worry about.

Mike.

Question

Mine don't exactly make a click, more of a loud squeal when braking in reverse!
Is that normal for a MY00 with 3200 miles?

Cheers
Iain.

Mine make a "clunk" noise, I understand that it's normal....

Hi Nick,
it's just a loud squeal really but as it only occurs occaisionally I'm not too concerned. I'll mention it when it goes in for the next service.
Saw you blatting along the Bristol road yesterday , did wave, but as I'm now in a diesel Focus for work chances are I'm nigh on invisible!
cheers
Iain

The clunk is as explained above. The squeak is caused by slightly glazed discs (to much light braking) which is exagerated because asbestos is no longer used in their manufacture. I get both.

Question

Orville
so if I brake harder it'll stop squeaking!
I'm not really a light breaker!
Cheers
Iain.
