Hi All .....

I've got squeeling rear brakes on my 99 sport, only at low speed. It's only done about 8k and serviced recently etc etc Dealer says they may of glazed as I don't use my brakes enough ??

Anybody got any thoughts or have the same problems ?

Hi Kev,
Number of possibilities:

1) Are your brakes standard UK spec
? If they are not, then uprated pads will squeak and squeal like a dinner lady.
2) Have you done a track day? Its possible that you may have killed the rear discs. The pads and discs on a standard UK car dont take much heat I'm afraid.
3) Go out for a drive and give the brakes some real welly. Try driving down a straight and hitting the brakes hard a few times.
This should warm the brakes up and hopefully burn away any crap between pads and discs.

Kev

Both my scoobs (MY 95 and present MY 98) have had this problem. It seems that it is cause by vibration of the spring loaded metal shims (?sp) between the piston and the brake pad. Curing it is easy but involves removing the pad and applying a smear of high temp grease to the outer metal surface of the pad.
You may prefer to get the dealer to do this.

Thanks all ..

I'll give the brake test a go tonite on the way home. Just for info it's never done a track day ..... yet but one day .....
They are standard pads, still original fit, I should of said before it sounds like "rust" from a damp night or wet drive in but it's been dry here for a few days now and it's still doing it, a very nasty squeel but not at speed.

I'll shut up now and give it a "waz" down a lane tonite ... look in the mirror and then brake a tad harder than normal

Thanks all
K
