Question

With an upgrade in front discs and pads, and braided hoses all round happening shortly, I will need to change brake fluid on the system. What are people using these days?
Are there any particular makes that enhance brake performance particularly with the thought of a scooby in mind? Any help gratefully appreciated.
Cheers, Stu.

I'll be changing brake fluids on Friday. After hearing good reports I opt for ATE Super Blue Racing. This is a non synthetic DOT4 brake fluid. Tech info on the bottle says:
Dry boiling point: 280C (536F)= 50C (or 122F) above DOT4
Wet boiling point: 200C (392F) = 45C (113F) above DOT4

Not cheap stuff though.

It would be adviseable to go to the highest DOT rating available for non-synthetic fluid which is DOT 5.1. I've used this for many years in my quattro, you won't get any difference in feel but it will resist all the ususal pitfalls of lower rated fluids. Castrol/Girling do one and it is only slightly more expensive than DOT 4.

I came across the ATE stuff some years ago and frankly was not convinced of the price premium when its rating is no better than standard fluid...I suspected it was a packaging exercise using very high quality DOT4. Dn't get me wrong ATE products are first class but you pays your money and takes your choice.

Cool

Howdy..

If you will be doing normal road use/hard road use...go for 5.1

If you will be doing heavy track use, go for DOT 4

J.

ps - Pete supplies DOT 4 with the Brembo kit

Thumbs up

What's the DOT for the Silkolene Pro Race 2000 stuff then? Would 1-ltr be enough for the whole system? I've never bled a Scooby system completely dry before!
Cheers.

AP supplied their own dot 5.1 fluid with my kit. They said it was quite cheap too!
