I received some Brembo brakes from Scoobysport from the previous owner of my 22B.
It seems that only a front set of Brembo's have been supplied and thus fitted.

Having Brembo's on the front and the standard Scoobysport brakes on the rear, has this been done before, is it recommended and what is you advise ?

Cool

Howdy..

You can only get Brembos for the front...they dont make a kit for the back.

Most people (virtually everybody) only change the front brakes... If I remember correctly.. Pete tells people not to change the rears as it unsettles the cars... and you need to start going into brake biasing valves, etc...

Pete was developing a rear brake upgrade at one point. He recommended Pagid pads for the rear of my car, these give a useful increase in rear fade-resistance and probably stopping power too.

We did some work with Brembo on a rear kit, but it was only for cosmetic purposes.

To test the effect of more rear braking we put some carbon ceramic pads in the standard calipers. They locked/activated ABS very easily under heavy braking. The problem is the lack of weight on the back of an Impreza and the amount of suspension travel with the standard set up.

Under light braking, it was better, but its no good if the car swaps ends in an emergency situation.

The STi V and 22B have bigger rear discs with two pot calipers on the back and these can occasionally be locked up under intense braking.

Brake balance is vitally important. The second any brake system locks up, you have lost all of its advantage over the stuff you took off. A skidding wheel is a skidding wheel, no matter which brakes are behind it.

Far better to have brakes that allow you the control to load the front up, but allow you to keep increasing the braking force as the load on the front wheels increases.

On race/touring cars the back brakes do little more than slow the wheels down, on rally cars they are bigger so they can be biased up to lock the rears and help get the car out of shape for a corner.

J's right, the Brembo rear kit for road going Scoobies is out of the window... for the time being.
