Uprated disks (with standard calipers)
I am looking to buy uprated front disks (possibly grooved and/or drilled) for my 94 WRX with 17" Speedline Chronos (a.k.a. Superturismo I) with a 55 offset.
There seems to be a fairly large choice (EBC, Tarox, Black Diamond etc)
What experiences have owners had with these (and other) disks ?
Are there larger disks available for the standard two pot calipers ?
Thanks
Gavin

Gavin, yes you can use your 2-pots with bigger discs. You need a bracket made up to move the caliper further away from the hub, to allow bigger discs to be fitted. This will give you the benefits of bigger discs, and more clamping effect from the caliper. Any garage that deals in performance cars, and has an engineering background will make these up for you. As for discs, I would look at material first, like pure grey cast discs that are used in Group N rallying, rather than cross-drilling and grooving. Of course you can get the same garage to groove the good quality discs for you.

Hi,
As Mark says, you can get bigger disks if you space out your calipers. Talk to Hi Spec on 01322-286850 (ojn holiday until next week)...
Cross drilling, in theory, allows better heat dissipation. In practice all it usuall does is give less friction area for the pad to bite onto. Grooving is a different matter. I am getting larger disks on mine and specified 4 grooves per disk (if the supplier makes them then you can ask for the pattern you want) - the reason being that I am normally quite light on the brakes so they can easily glaze over. The grooves act to de-glaze the pads - at least, that's the theory!
Anyway, that's to suit my driving style. But all in all, the most effective brake upgraed is larger disks!
