I've not used the same size in both, 205/50x16 in F1 and 215/35x18 in Toyo - but I think I'll try to get 225/35x18 F1s next, as I prefer the better wet grip of the F1s. To be fair, I've not used the Toyos in Summer yet, but can't see them being better than F1s as the F1 is 'really' a summer tyre.
Both a waste of time in the snow, but thats 'snow' surprise
Pity I can't get 215/35x18 F1s, but will try the larger size.....

DO NOT BUY TOYO's they are terrible,in damp/wet weather they are horrific.
The goodyear F1's i'm told are good but wear on the edges, the tyre of choice for me would be the AVON ZZ3,i tried several tyres on my old MY01 and these tyres where by far the best all round tyre and the wear was excellent.

F1s do wear on the edges - but if you want to go round corners quick, put up with it..
Zippy - the ZZ3s are terrible compared to F1s on a classic, so I'd guess they're the same on the 01. The wear on the Avons is good, but the wet grip is really poor IMHO..

I'm going Goodyear next...and have Toyos now. I find it hard to believe the abuse the Toyos are getting. If its true I can't wait to enjoy the benefits of the 'superior' tyres cos I'm hammering around in all weathers on the current choice.
Even if Goodyears grip a little better I value the fact that a tyre is
quiet
progressive in its limits
a good wet and dry balance
has cool unidirectional tread
Listen if I had a rear wheel drive mid engine car again I'd pick the stickiest tyre...

quiet? my Toyo's are far from quiet. I'm glad I've an overweight UK classic rather than some tin can RA
The Toyo's are on a par with the Goodyears in the dry (and I mean bone dry). The Toyo's are just too poor in the damp or wet. They are very progressive and I've never had them break away violently. The problem I have is that they just slide far too willingly and at stupidly slow speeds. Unless the roads are completely dry, they never trully inspire confidence to push the car hard.
Maybe I being too harsh as my experience is just all fast road driving. If I took them on-track or somewhere I could push the car and tyres beyond their limits then I might not have to tip-toe around so much when driving.
The Goodyears for me were an all-round tyre with excellent grip dry or wet. They were easy to get to grips with (forgive the pun) and inspired confidence from the get-go.

As people have said, if you corner a lot (ie, live in Milton Keynes (roundabout land) as I do and spend the rest of your time down windy country lanes, then the side walls on the f1s will go bald as hell after 3 to 4k miles. Great grip getting there though.
I found the proxys to grip under the above conditions nearly as well as the f1s and the tyres wear evenly.
I had ZZ3s and in a straight line they were great, in the wet they were ok, but in the dry and whilst heavy cornering they were deadly. They do not seem to follow the line of the car and drag/slide whilst cornering. This may be called tramlining, i dont know.I have a MY99, standard 16" alloys, 247bhp.
Hope this is useful.

I tried to get F1's when I needed new tyres back in November, and I couldn't find any at the right price anywhere, national shortage at the time!
So, I've settled on the toyos, as they were on when I got the car back in April last year. I've found the Toyos to be a good all round tyre, with great grip in the dry, and very good grip in the wet on twisty country lanes and "c" roads!
I've never tried the F1's, but they always seem to come off slightly better against the toyos. Pity we cant try before we buy eh?
Comments like XXGOMXX's arent really helpful though are they, not very subjective!

Rich,to be fair that isnt a bad price for F1's fitted, as you have seen on here many diffrent people have different opinions on tyres,it all comes down to driver input and percieved feel or lack of it in some cases.
I've driven several cars classic/Bugeye with a selection of all the tyres mentioned above and i personally rated the new Avon ZZ3 on my MY01 but i do concur that the F1 is also a very good all round choice.
ps,just stay away from them Toyo things and you will be fine.

I have had both, i recon the goodyeart has the advantage in the wet but pretty similar in terms of grip in the dry. I thought the wear rates where pretty similar.
If i had to choose then it would be the goodyears which are usually a tenner or so a corner more.
