Nothing special, except you may need to loosen the handbrake shoes as they have a tendancy to bind to the disc. There's a small hole behind the dust gaurd and a sprocket to adjust their tightness.

I put some instructions up on my website when I changed my rear discs (MY99).

Here is the page from the Subaru manual on adjusting the handbrake shoes

Thumbs up

There are also two holes tapped into the disc, which I believe are M8.

You can screw an M8 bolt in until it just begins to move the disc, then repeat in the other hole or do both at once if you have 2 M8 bolts.

Yep, they are indeed M8

I used some M8x50 to pop mine off. One warning though, use strong bolts and make sure the handbrake shoes aren't binding as you try to push the discs off. I managed to snap one bolt (luckily the discs were going straight in the bin) when I removed mine as I didn't realise the shoes had bound inside the disc hub.

If the discs are binding, spray in lots of WD40, loosen them with the instructions above and use some bolts to coax them away from the hub.

If you ever try to force them off, you're in danger of braking some of the handbrake mechanism behind the disk.

just to 'temper' the thread, once I'd slackened the handbrake shoes with the adjuster I found that the discs came off with no effort at all - (Though I'd bought 2 bolts to be ready )

I also made a shaped tool to loosen the adjusters - it was much easier than a screwdriver (though I removed the first one first and shaped the tool for the second removal and subsequent re-adjustment)
