Question

i've got the standard 4 pot Brembo that comes with the STi8.

question:

1) has anyone changed the standard brakes to AP 6 pot?

2) is there really such a big performance difference (i know it's 4 against 6 pots, but...)?

if they're really that good then perhaps it's worth a change.

I've dirven the two back to back and the ap's were very good, however the standard pads on the STI are crap so a change to something like an 1144 will improve things considerably

Yes, i put AP 6 pots on my Sti7 and they were very good and definatley better than the standard brembos, NO fade and as you would expect better braking.
When i sold the 7 i sold the brakes and was going to buy another set for my Sti8, thought i would give it a few weeks just to be sure, i've now done 11k miles with the standard setup and can't really justify the cost.
If you've got the money spare do it, you will notice a difference ( have a look at the Thermocolour calipers ) .

need to save some cash first as things are a bit tight now that I'm not working and already have a few things in mind, like new rear style bumper and a set of prodrive wheels but ap brakes are next on my shopping list.

sam, this may be a daft question but what are 1144's? do i fit these onto the existing brembo's?

Unless your a track day freak the standard Brembo's with DBA discs/ds2500 pads/braided hoses and dot 5.1 will be more than adequate, much cheaper and almost as effective as Ap's for about half the price.

I have recently done this to my STi and Nelly has done the same to his, makes a massive difference to stopping power and zero fade.

This route should leave the standard caliper under warranty just incase you should get a problem.

I've changed from the Brembo's to the new AP 6-pot 352mm dics. They're very good indeed and cheaper than the 330mm ones at the moment due to over supply!

I changed mainly due to the poor heat disapation on the Brembo's that meant I was either warping the discs or leaving nasty pad deposits on them when I had my Evo's. The AP's are superb all round braking though, more feel and no warp for me
