I changed from 2 pots to 4 pots on my MY98 - the standard brakes were truly awful. I noticed a big difference in stopping power, but to be fair I also switched to braided steel brake lines, DOT 5 fluid, and Mintex 1155 pads.

Best budget brake upgrade in my opinion, I think £300 is reasonable, assuming its disks and calipers, and their in good nick. Even better if you get some pads thrown in too.

A proper upgrade to Brembos, APs, or Prodrive, will set you back £1000-1500. You pays yer money, you takes yer choice......

I had 2 pots which i never realy found to bad for 90% of the driving, i drove a few cars with 4 pots and to be honest i didnt think they were alot better, better yes but not alot.
Ive now got brembo 4 pots and even on track days find these to be great.

i had 2 pots on my MY98 and upgraded to 4 pots

i paid £100 for a set of subaru 4 pot calipers of an STi4 (which is really, really cheap)

I then went to Tyres Northampton & had them fitted with EBC turbogroove discs, EBC redstuff pads, braided hoses & dot 5.1 all for £375

so at that point it had cost me £475 to upgrade to 4 pots (and dont forget i got the calipers cheap!)

But i soon found that the redstuff were very poor when cold and still poor when eventually warmed up, faded and they didnt last long at all. So i ended up buying DS2500's instead at £150

So now i've paid over £600 to upgarde to subaru 4 pots and although they stop the car well and (now) dont fade i wish i had spent more and maybe got a set of AP's or similar - especially when now and again you can pick em up on here for £700 - £800 second hand
