Hi,
..first of all I feel like a bit of a spud having to ask for help fitting brake pads!
I've got a MY98 uk turbo on the standard 2 pots. I need to replace the front pads and have bought the fedodo FDB948 pads from halfords (I dont take the impreza on track and I've never had a problem boiling brakes on road cars so the OEM standard of pads will do fine) - these are the only pads halfords sell for 1994-2000 turbos.

The pad on the left is the new one. Should these pads fit with different fitting kits or are they just plain wrong?

Thanks in advance

Chris

The pads are wrong , one is for the early caliper and one type for the later one , You will have to change them

Yep as Ian says, the pad on the right is the one for the 99/00 rear caliper (single-pot sliding style).

eh? ..hows that work then?!! the one on the right is the one that came off the car! :S ... I've known the the car since new (used to belong to my old man) and its never had any changes! Damm Friday afternoon cars!

I had a similar problem with my first saxo, the first pads didn't fit, it turned out that they'd put ABS calipers on even though it didn't have ABS!

What a pain- right I'd better go and put my car back together!

Sorry to confuse your Chris when mentioning the 99/00 cars. I can only comment on these models as I know they have the sliding calipers fitted.

Perhaps the '98 was fitted with the same caliper or maybe just later '98 cars.

Have a quick look here and you'll see that the left pad is for a <98 car and the right for a 99+. Looks to me like they started fitted the later style caliper even in '98.

yeah, cheers for the help and link.

I thought things were going too well when the old pads came out without a single hitch!

Time to dig out the receipt!

The pad on the left in for Legacy's and early Impreza's , the one on the right is pre 99 ones , they are both 2 pot calipers , from 99 onwards they had the 4 pots ,

How helpful is Ian Godney?? Even when he isn't selling stuff.
Well done Ian: That's what makes this site so good.

I'd like to add my thanks to you all.
Alyn, I'm actually down in Essex now, but I'm back in Newcastle this weekend so I might pop in after I'm had words with Halfords!

Thanks again guys
