Still having a few high speed braking issues with my new brake setup on myu bugeye, and I was starting to wonder if its the brake pads.

My new pads are Mintex, and I only paid £25 for them.

The part number is MDB1416. They fit perfectly, but each pad is solid. Do the 4 pot pads have a gap in the middle ?

Also, are these the 1144's ??

anyone got any ideas ??

Thanks in advance,

Olly.

PS. Absolutly cooked them earlier when testing. They seemed to cook very easily? Lots of smoke !! Oh and by the way, I have done about 600 miles on them now since new. Also I have Black diamond disks which are also new, and grooved.

I doubt they're 1144's at that price, the box should have a set of numbers after the part number, thats the compound!
I think they should have a groove in the middle, I could be wrong though! That helps a lot dunnit!

MDB1416 is listed as a Nissan 300 SX front brake pad in the following pdf document from Sachs: http://www.sachsracing.com/owx_medien/media31/3140.pdf (Sachs North America distribute Mintex products in the USA).

sounds like std spec replacement pads, 1144 would state on the box and would come in "c-tech" packaging.....red & white box??
in general the Mintex compounds are now quite dated and you'd be better off spending your money on something like Pagid rs4.2.1. or Ferodo ds2500, more cost initially but if you want an improvement then i'm afraid it costs.......

p.s. claudius the 300zx uses the same shape pad.........

That's what I was wondering, Alyn. Thanks!

Do you think he smeared that pad all over the discs, then? What's the best way to clean a disc from pad material?

So Does this mean that the gap in the middle of the pad is only for dust ?

Also, looking at the Mintex database, it does say that the part number is MDB 1688, but I these are a totally different shape and will not fit?

my mintex 1155's cost me nearly £100 so you either have a bargain on your 1144's or they are not what they seem mate.

MDB1416 doesn't have any dust gaps in it BUT it is for the N/A Impreza - if you have a WRX (bugeye)Turbo made after Dec 2000 then the part you require is MDB 1688 which has a "gap" in the middle.

Hope this helps!

Russell

VERY IMPORTANT INFO................

just noticed this post........this is no help at all for a "bugeye"!!!!! MDB 1416 is THE pad shape from mintex.....MDB 1688 is for the early legacy/impreza 2pot caliper......

hope this clears things up!!
