Brake Disc Surface Cracks
#1
Running standard Subaru original brakes and pads - went into Subaru (Listers Worcester)for check /service (42K)recently and had to have new discs (and pads) due to small cracks which had appeared in the surface... the car has never been on a track so I was a little upset at the bill presented £600... for service and new brake parts / fitting etc.
Has anybody experienced similar problem - had any response from Subaru when claming under warranty ?

Think they should be specified to be up to the job...brake components being an essential part on any car, should the cracks profigate further it's possible the discs could have disintegrated ??? suggest people should check their cars from time to time for this type of problem.

The fact that is a common problem on younger cars would hopefully mean that thay can not argue and will at least give me some redress against the cost of premature replacement - unfortunately I have gone for the standard items again - wish I had the time / money to fit an alternative solution - such as AP or Brembo
Thanks for your response comment - at least I am not alone in experiencing this problem.

I think brakes are quite important on a performance car - suggest that checking them visually is common sense if a known problem exits (Same as oil and tyre pressures every so often) - the service only picked this problem up because I asked them to swop tyres from front to rear and track / balance the wheels for me in addition - not sure that on an oil change small service that this problem would necessarily have been spotted.
