Hi,

The MY03 tyre is a 215/45 and I've been offered a set of STI 8 wheels with 225/45 tyres - how will this effect the rolling radius/handling?

Regards

Dario

Here.
First field is tire width, second is percentage (f.e. 215/40 = 40% of 21,5cm = tire profile), third is wheel size, finally press the red button.

Hi Jim - thanks for that.

So 1.44% difference isn't that much bigger? - has anybody on here changed to a 225/45 tyre on the MY 03 WRX and noticed any difference in the ride/handling?

Regards

won't make any difference at all - only cosmetic as you will have very slightly wider tyres - and gold wheels...which is an anathema to some on this bbs....

The other thing you will need to consider is drag factor slower acceleration and possibly less top end.

You won't notice a thing - your looking at a v slight increase in tyre width - you'd have to be Schumacher ragging it round ragging it round the 'ring to notice any difference...

I was once told that increasing the tyre width on the same rims will achieve very little extra grip (depending on the rim width of course). Having said that, many years ago I swapped 185/55 15 for 195/50 15 on a 309 GTI and it seemed to improve the grip as well as looking better. There was some loss in steering feel but that was negligable. The car did understeer more though on the limit

Here's another site that lets you compare two different size tires and is in English. link

225/45 17 shouldn't be a problem either. Its used quite commonly for the WRXs here in the US.
