Urgent: will a 17 inch 7.5 fit
#1
Hey,
Have been reading this forum for a few weeks now, but this is the first time I really need some urgent advice.
I've recently bought my fathers Impreza MY00 and I'm planning to do some mods before the summer.
Yesterday a friend of mine offered 4 brand new wheels, Gramlights 57 Fspec for a good price but they're a 48 mm offset and 17 inch but a 7.5 width (he crashed his before he had even fitted them). Will these fit. I'm not planning to go for 18 inch but I would appreciate a bigger tire, like a 225-40-17. Is this a good choice, will a bigger tire give more grip?
Next mod is probably the Prodrive suspension kit.
Anyway, i'm hoping a lot of replies, cause he already has another eager byer (have to decide before friday)

The wheels should be ok but I think you may have trouble with the size of tyre.
I’m just about to fit a set of STi 7 wheels to my car which are also 7.5 inch wide but im putting 215/40/17's on as the standard STi 7 tyre size it to big.
The "standard" 17" Tyre for the Classic Impreza as fitted by Prodrive is 205/45/17 but not many companies do this size, 215/40/17 gives just about the same circumference and more companies do it making it cheaper to buy.
As for grip it all depends on the quality of the tyre and wider tyres maybe better in the dry may cause problems in the wet.

FWIW, I've got 17x7.5 +48mm Prodrive GC-07Cs on my MY98 5 door. Lowered with Eibach springs. I'm running Sumitomo HTR Z 2s in 215/45/17 size. I'd bet you'll get rubbing in the rear with 225/40.

Thanks,
Just my luck, but that other person just wants to pay more than my friend payed for the wheels, so they're sold.
After seeing them I've decided to just order them, an 8 week wait but I think they're worth it.
Will post pictures when I do get them.
