Brake Choice?
#1
I`ve read through many threads on here but can`t decide on which Brake Upgrade to go for. It`s an MY99 mainly used fast road & a couple of trackdays a year,I`ve got about £1000 to spend,or maybe a bit more for the right setup. What do you reckon- Prodrive, Brembo,or would I be just paying for a name? Perhaps a cheaper Group N option would be suitable. Thanks for any advice, Neil.

there are options available starting at a much lower budget than you suggest.........cheapest probs "pukka" grpN discs at £150/pair with various pad options from Mintex, Pagid or Ferodo or try with Pagid 8/16 groove discs after that your into much more, but you'll be suprised how good the std caliper set-up can be if you put the right parts in it!!!
any advice..........

For a grand, talk to TSL about their 6 pot kits with Brakeman discs. From first hand experience I can tell you they are EYE POPPING and I will be fitting a set just as soon as I can afford.
Astonishingly they weight the same as the OE callipers and discs.

Godspeed brakes are very good, i have them on my car. For that amount of money you could have the fronts and the backs too!!
The front kit consists of 335mm Discs with seperate aluminium bells. They look awesome and are amazing when driving fast!
I haven't got the backs yet but will get them hopefully within the next month.

Ive just had pagid disks and pads (on all fours), braided hoses and new rear calipers fitted to my MY99 Turbo Wagon by the guys at www.midland-impreza.com and it only cost £670. Fantastic performance no matter what you do the car keeps on stopping !
Give them call, they come highly recommended.

Out of interest what's the advantage of fitting uprated rears ? I read some threads ago and I thought the rears did very little, and most of the heat needed to be shed from the front brakes cos they do most of the work, and that basically it wasn't necessary to replace the rears because they never reach their limit ? Or am I talking complete and utter sh1te !!
Cheers.

depends on how far you push the front really (oh, and budget!!)........with a normal road/light track type upgrade you can leave the std rears, though you will see a difference if you upgrade at this stage, however once you get into larger front brake upgrades then you should look at sorting the rears to maintain the front>rear brake balance

The only reason I uprated the rear disks was because the old rears were very rusty and looked like ****e, your quite correct, the rears dont really do much under normal road conditions. The biggets decider was the excellent price, I got all wheels done for the same price as other vendors charge for just the front.
Bargain.
