I've seen them - nice looking tread. But dont know anyone who has actually bought them for comparison. Dont think they are upto Impreza material though.

Marangoni car tyres sold in this country are NOT re-treads. Most re-treads - including those shown in the link - are for heavy use (trucks etc). Car tyre re-treads represent less than 5% of the UK car tyre market.

My company is the sole importer of these tyres into the UK and I currently have 195/45/R15s Zeta Linea ('V' tread pattern) fitted to my Saxo VTS. The tyres are very grippy, though nosier than the OE Michelins. Not tried them on my Scooby as yet.

They are available through a number of independent tyre outlets (ie not Kwik Fit, ATS etc) and are positioned as a mid-range tyre (ie between premium - Michelin, Pirelli etc - and budget). Probably best price comparison would be as a slightly cheaper Toyo.

Had a set of marangonis on my old 17in rims,

A very good tyre for the price, slight noise at low speeds but seems to dissappear at 30+.

Very grippy tyre although I had a 45 profile and side walls did have some play.

Wear rate is exceptionally good.

Sold the 17`s to a M8 who is in the tyre business and he has them on his uk, likes the tyre alot and can get them for better price than I got!

A good tyre for the price with a good tread pattern and low wear rate, very good road adhesion in the wet.

depends on your pocket and if your a brand name person. Leaves you the same choice as a good pair of jeans, do you have 501`s or a cheap pair, Toyo`s or marangonis,.

Question

So, they'd be reasonable track day tyres?

Had them on my old Golf Gti. I believe they are made by Pirelli but sold as Marangoni, well thats what the blokey in the tyre place told me at the time.

ps I'm NOT saying Pirelli are good by the way!

Sport Special,

£100 a bit steep that,

£81.65 a corner fitted + balanced, try to haggle that price down a bit me thinks....

Tim,

your dead right with the Pirrelli thing, made by them as a cheaper alternative to capture a bigger market...

Rex93 / Tim

Marangoni is an independent business - Pirelli do NOT own them - owned by.......the Marangoni family.

The only connection is that Marangoni acquired a former Pirelli production plant (oh, I suppose they're also both Italian )

Question

Sport Special

If you've really been offered 4 for £100 - ie £25 each - I'd be concerned (as a tyre wholesaler & sole importer) because that price is below what we can buy them for from the manufacturer, and I'd therefore suspect that the seller may not be all they seem to be.

Be grateful if you could mail me off-line re source.

Thanks

Hugh

When i was offered these (along with the lancia guys mentioned above) we were buying through stapleton tyres trade list (one of my mates owns a small village garage) and we were paying approx £30 per corner brand new

nah mate, but from what I've experienced Impreza drivers are extremely picky with tyres - especially Bridgestone SO-2's. Lancia folks will drive any all old rubber as their £££ goes on repairs

The Marangoni route reminds me what Falken were 5 years ago.

Funny you say falken, thats what i went for when the lancia guys went marangoni.

Paid about £5 a corner more for falkens, but where id killed my toyos in 8000 miles, the falkens managed nearer 15000 miles!

They ve done 5k miles thats all so will phone the guy the morn
I think 25 a corner is pretty reasonable for 17s, considering toyos are 82 a corner and last bout 6k miles

Question

Sport special,
i take it you drive one of the last classic shaped sport's then?
If so, you will be putting the wrong size tyre on (215/45/17) as they should be either 205/45/17 or 215/40/17 and not as stated above (thought id let you know )
