Question

My breaks are feeling spongy. You have to press the peddle quite a way before they have an effect. An even then, it seems like I need more pressure than I used to.

The Subaru garage suggests that the servo needs replacing. They have one on Back order, but I want to know if this is actually the fault before I part with £200+ to replace it.

Any opinions?

EDIT to say that it's a UK MY95.

sounds more like old / airated fluid (hard to say without more specifics)
my first suggestion would be to flush thro' the old fluid and bleed system (use quality fluid like SILKOLENE, etc.)!!! mail or phone for specific advice 0191-4103770

It's not long had new rear disks and pads. The sytem was drained and re-filled with Dot 5.1, so I don't think it's the fluid...

Drain it again.

Seriously, I've found that after the initial flush and bleed you need to bleed again after a couple of days and sometimes again after a few more days.
