Hi,
Fitted some 4 pots to my car last night MY95 WRX, got it right after fitting them the wrong way around, now they are on correct they seem spongey, the first 1-2 cms of the pedal go's down real easy and they dont seem to have any bite to them... Ive used DOT 5.1 brake fluid....
Any thought appreciated..?

braided hoses? The original rubber things can expand when you brake...
Sometimes when you do brake work you have to leave the car for a while (couple of days) to let the air in the brake system collect together, so that you can bleed it out.
Mine was spongey as you described for the first couple of days. I then bled them again (I think 3 days went by) and they were considerably better.

Just pull lots of fluid through mate - the old jam pot trick. After pulling or rather pushing a lot of fluid through (making sure that the master cylinder never gets empty!) start building up pressure, have someone hold pressure on the pedal, and then open the nipple and close it just BEFORE the flow ends.
Do that a few times (all sides) and you should be OK.

It might also be because the pads are not fully bedded to the discs yet. This is especially true if you use new pads on old discs which have lips on the edge.
If it was the standard rubber hoses you would have had the same problem with the old brakes

Just check that you have the calipers on the right way round.
They are handed, left and right and the bleed nipple must be at the top, or you will not be able to bleed the air out.

pete,
Did this the first time round but figured it out.... got it right now but still a bit soft, seems to have got a bit better though since a few hard brakes..

I am about to do the same upgrade, where did you get an EZbleed kit with a bayonnet cap to fit the master cylinder? I cannot seem to get a bayonnet fitting, they are all screw type.

Did the upgrade at the weekend, we bled the brakes (order should be: LHS rear, RHS rear, LHS front then RHS front) and got air out until it stopped at each wheel. Then on my mates advice we went round the cycle again wheel by wheel and got load more air out the second time round. A third time did not get any air so we stopped at that. However, we were watching the master cylinder resevoir like a hawk all the way through to ensure it was topped up.
