Question

Hi guys. Yet another question about the rather dismal brakes on my UK spec 97 Turbo.

I bought the car last year with the standard brake set up. I was initially advised to upgrade to EBC grooved dics and told the the red pads would compliment these nicely. Yeah right!!! After a couple of months I realised the Red pads weren't right for road use and decided to go for the Greens. These have again been on for a couple of months and once again I'm not satisfied.

For one they seem quite noisey. Sounds a bit like a clicking noise when the car is in motion. Then there's the fade, but more worryingly, the car does not feel stable sometimes under braking (This includes from high or low speeds) and can pull to either side of the road. Subaru cant identify the problem!! Any ideas?

Would I be best clearing the dust from my wallet and ordering 4 pots and if so do any of you recommend the Graham Goode STI upgrade kit before my MOT next month? I dont want to lay out the £800 that I'm being quoted to find that the problems have not been rectified.

Cheers

i wouldnt spend £800 on standard 4 pots, better of buying them secondhand for £250-300 or buying some decent ap/brembo or something similar kits, i used to have a my97 and changed to 4 pots, better but not brilliant, now got the 330mm alcon set up, far better

Try Pagid(expensive) or Ferrodo DS2500 pads! If you want better braking now.

I had the same dilema, I went for the 4 pot upgrade (£250 from a breakers)and before the pads had worn out I upgraded to the Godspeed 335mm kit (£575)
4 pots are better, and the Godspeed do impove them again, but your probably better off finding a secondhand set of Brembo or AP 4's! IMHO

Cool

Just had a set of Godspeed 335 mm kits fitted, end of July, and braided hoses. They're much better than the originals, and cheaper than the new Subaru kit from GGR. Would recommend them.

Godspeed it is then. Thanks for your time and advice.

Don't suppose anyone has a telephone number of link. Yell.com is struggling to find them.

Mark, do the 4 pots fit straight onto a 97 in place of the 2s? Also can you still fit the 15" wheels over the 4 pot brakes(my originals are gold 15" ones on a Catalunya but the previous owner fitted 16" silver 98 style ones which I run one to keep the OEM ones nice for resale).
