17" look question

Would an upgrade from 16 to 17" tyres look weird on a Sport? In terms of the car being 1" higher and the gap between the tyre and the wheelarch already being quite big. Should I then also consider having suspension lowered? What would I need to get?
Any advice/tips would be great.
