at what point should the standard sti version 6 brake calipers be uprated to something better?

 

At 400 bhp you have already past that pointand should be looking at a serious increase in car braking performance.SJ.

Perfectly adequate and readily available at reasonable cost.

 

The Sti gold Brembo's can work very well with good discs and pads , but then you might need to change your wheels as they don't clear the spokes on most wheels on the classics.

A popular option would be one of these kits , all brand new , monoblock Brembo calipers , and a choice of pad compounds , and will fit under just about all 17" wheels or larger

personaly i'd just AP 6 pot it

 

you never bothered with brakes before you bought a car pre fitted with aps.

But was always holding it back unless a very clear road due to it

AP's were on the list of things to buy

My type R has 330mm AP 4 pots front and brembo new age on the rears and they are plenty

 

surely only an idiot would make the brakes the last modification

 

I never drove it aiming to need to use them that hard

 

then whats the bloody point of 390 bhp.........
you may as well have 100bhp and the rest of the running gear up to the job
