at what point should the standard sti version 6 brake calipers be uprated to something better?

At 400 bhp you have already past that pointand should be looking at a serious increase in car braking performance.SJ.

The Sti gold Brembo's can work very well with good discs and pads , but then you might need to change your wheels as they don't clear the spokes on most wheels on the classics.

A popular option would be one of these kits , all brand new , monoblock Brembo calipers , and a choice of pad compounds , and will fit under just about all 17" wheels or larger

nope, 390 hahaha.

But was always holding it back unless a very clear road due to it

AP's were on the list of things to buy

My type R has 330mm AP 4 pots front and brembo new age on the rears and they are plenty

situation was a tad different for me cos i had the car engine speced and built before i picked it up, but you knew that already anyway lol
