sticky brakes
I've got the fairly common subaru issue of sticking brakes on my 06 2.0 r sport (Malta import) I'm in need of a bit of info on the best course of action to sort it
The standard caliper i'm told is a sliding 2 pot
So do i service/rebuild mine only downside I can see is limited parts listed so probably going to be a visit to main dealer ££££ (then in to local mechanic) and once the labour goes on
its very tempting to get a set of 4pots
Either refurbed original or the "WRX PRO" ones
Firstly anyone know if the standard 16 inch wheels on the r sport will clear the 4pots ?
I run snow tyres on the 16s and also have a set of 17 standard wheels of a hatch wrx with summer boots, am I right to assume these will clear 4pots?
Secondly refurbed Subaru OEM or the "WRX PRO" branded?
Are the wrx pro ones any good?
Cost wise there's about £100 between the two calipers £160 for wrx pro and £250 for std refurbed Subaru ones.
I fully expect to have to change the disks and pads even if I fix the standard set up the extra cost of the disks/pads for the 4pots is minimal if any for OE spec.
The choices
1 £150ish to rebuild mine + disks/pads
2 £160 for wrx pro + disks/pads
3 £250-300 for subaru refurbs + disks/pads
If my wheels will clear them and they are any good the wrx pro option seems good but is it?

Hi
I have a R Sport as well - the first thing I did was upgrade the front brakes - I have the WRX PRO calipers and mintex 1155 pads - best thing I've done to the car as the stock 2 pot sliders are woeful - you will need 294 mm disks as well - standard disks are fine - the calipers will fit under the standard 16 inch wheels - just.
Best fit some decent pads as well the 1155's are pretty good as are pagid RS-4's - don't know about Kevlar pads as not used them.
I hope this helps.
Andy.

Cheers Andy good to know they clear standard 16' wheels did/do you run the car on 16's
And I assume you're happy with the wrx pro kit any negatives? i assume as they are a 1to1 clone they take the same pads as the subaru originals so there's plenty of choice.
TBH I don't think the standard brakes are that bad for a heavy car not like a classic sports one pots....
I've always had good quality parts on mintex and pagid pads in OE spec have been OK for my driving, only considered them poor if they got to hot which they do a bit too easily.
Generally if it ain't broke leave it alone / but if it is broke make it better and stronger than before.
Its going in to Alyn at ASP to sort but he had no clue if the r sports wheels would clear 4pots without trying them and he's not had much to do with the wrxpro calipers ( did say he's not aware of any problems with them )
Looking like a bargain upgrade might be on the cards....

Sorry I should have mentioned that I have the standard wheels. I'm very happy with the WRX PRO kit - the calipers take the standard 4 pot pads from Subaru - I use the car for towing my 2 berth caravan so I went the upgraded pads route - I would have done anyway but it was a way justifying spending £120 for the pads to my mrs !
I've only got knowledge of the padid RS-4's and the mintex 1155's - great pads.
Glad to be of any help.
