Default ABS Light Staying on

Hi

I have an 03 WRX hatch and recently the ABS light came on and will not go off. I recently had all new suspension fitted, but it was fine for a month, so I doubt this is a factor.

I have seen the suggestions on NASIOC etc about fault codes, but don't want to mess with the brakes myself, so do I need to take this to a specialist to diagnose, or an auto electrician or similar?

Any idea what it might be? I do need new discs soon (was going to go for standard stuff from Camskill) but would like to get this sorted first to make sure everything is 100% once the discs and pads are done.

Thanks for any help.

I would check for damage and clean all the reluctor rings as well as the abs pick up sensors.

Thanks, I've never even heard of reluctor rings, any tips on how to do this? Even better, a detailed how to guide on YouTube, or idiots guide would be perfect!

reluctor ring is the abs ring at the back of the hub and and the teeth could be corroded and a wire brush should sort that out sensor a little more tricky to test what i would do is disconnect sensor and if you have a meter set it to ohms and if car is jacked up put meter on the 2 pins in the sensor and spin the wheel by hand to see if you get a reading if not its broke new sensor needed. oh by the way you will need to get it plugged in to a diagnostic machine to find out what wheel is sending the fault

As gofaster said regarding the reluctor ring and corrosion but they can also split and this will also give an error message. Take take cleaning the sensors, I would suggest warm water and a soft cloth or soft paint brush, nothing abrasive. If any of the rings are damaged it would be best getting them done at the same time as the brakes as they need to be sweated on.

Edited to add...http://www.evilution.co.uk/chassis/f..._reluctors.htm...not a WRX but it gives you an idea what you are looking for.

Thanks all, I think this may be beyond me and I don't like taking chances with brakes, so I'll be taking it off to Mocom racing to get it sorted while he fits new discs too.

I wish!

Unfortunately just checked that and they are all working, so it looks like it is either the reluctor rings or a sensor. I've just had a quote to fix this (if it's the reluctor rings), fit new brembo pads and pagid discs and a new aircon condenser for £677 all in! A new ABS sensor will be even more

Hi there

I would check hubs if they're not damaged and check if yours ABS sensors/rings are OK,on our wagon we have same issue and we are replaced all ABS sensors and ABS pump and we are got same ABS error, after Neil@Slowboy racing has replaced hub our ABS error disappeared, due this I would try and check this as first, but yes sometimes failed bulb can cause this

Thanks,Jura

Thanks, I'll have a good look at the hubs this weekend. I have been doing a bit of muddy field driving, so you never know.

Can anyone recommend a replacement air con condenser? Just checking prices before I commit to one. Also, what the best source for brake parts?

Hi
I've just found out that the faulty part is the near side rear abs sensor and it appears that the main dealers have all the stock. They only want £260..........

So, I fairly urgently need another source for one of these, as it really don't want to shell out this much. Any help much appreciated.
