Default quick brake question

Hi guys and girls,

Just wondering if some one can help me out. I've taken delivery this week of new discs and pads from Godspeed :-D

Cl rc5+ pads and grooved rotors. For a 53 plate sti with the standard brembo calipers.

Any way my question I cant for the life of me get my the new pads in with the shims in place. I can get both pads in if I leave at least one of the shims out...currently the car has the new brakes but without any shims fitted.

Can anyone forsee any problems with this?

Thanks

Chris

the Impeza uses a 'thinner' version of this particular apd shape than the similiar EVO type cars and some companies only supply one type, dont deal with CL so can't tell you this is the case but seems likely

you could run the brakes for a small mileage initially without and then re-fit later and should have any major issues albeit they may well be noisey

You have pushed the calipers well back, I assume?

I have pushed the piston in as far as I can by hand which is all I have done before and not had problems.

I could try and use some mechanical leverage just in case they can go back a fraction more

Thanks

Just to keep the thread updated, the piston's where definitely 100% all the way back in. But the shims were having none of it.

I've left them out for now and will re fit them in a few 1000miles time. Although its still early days but the brakes seem nice a quiet :-D

Thanks

Chris

I prefer to fit pads without the plates and apply copper slip or ceratech paste instead , fitting the plates can give you a slightly spongier pedal feel , you get a much better pedal feel with the caliper pistons directly on the pad
Cheers Ian

Hi Ian,

That's great to hear I have fitted them with the Ceratech paste as per your recommendations

Normally i fit the shims and some copper slip, but there seems to be a bit more material on the CL pads (not a bad thing at all).

So far everything seems to be settling in nicely without the shims, although taking it very steady thus far and not tried to lean on the brakes yet. but they are running nice an quiet which is what i like.

Thanks everyone for your help

Regards

Chris
