Default Exhaust question

I currently have a 98 turbo forester that is having rust issues in the mid pipe section. This piece needs to be replaced, my question is what are the emission laws? The exhaust seems to be a factory part w/CAT, the down pipe is fine and has a CAT. I've been looking for a replacement part with no luck, all I seem to find is cat back exhausts with no cat in the mid section. How can I go about replacing this and not failing the MOT?

really? 37 views and no one has a suggestion...

Ok how about this, if I slap on a catless mid pipe will I fail? or do I need the CAT?

The reason I ask is because I don't know, I haven't lived here very long and this is my first time dealing with the issue.

A cat in the downpipe should be fine providing your lambda is in good working order ..
