Default Boring old oil question....

Going to change mi oil, its done around 6k on the current stuff but im after changing it myself as ive got the means etc to do it at home.

What would you recommend for a 03 sti blob thats been mapped? im running in the 320's and give it some beans a fair bit when out on run?

Only reason I ask is because im at a loss whether having it mapped and demanding a little more than normal from the engine will make a big difference?

I will probably get flamed for this mate from the ricers out there.

I used to use any known (cheaper) semi synthetic oils, the key is to change oil and filter frequently rather than put £50 variants in for long stretches. more so if like you say you drive enthusiastically.

Comma do a good quality cheap range and to be honest Ford's own brand is a quality product actually produced by castrol.

No probs Mick, id rather have a straight answer from somone with experience using it reguarly than just info being regurgitated tbh.

If I can get away with the cheaper stuff id prolly change it more frenquently aswell, I know it defies the logic of using cheaper stuff, but Id think id see more benefit from regular changes than using the expensive stuff and doing it every 10k....

As most will vouch on here I drove my car quite enthusiastically I know its not big or clever, but on track days and runs out its fine

never had a single engine issue, to be honest never have with any of my subaru's, I used to change the oil around the 4k mark, though this all was dependent on how long and often it got a decent hiding so to speak.

The heat generated from the turbo as you will know destroys oil pretty quickly regardless of its cost, better safe than sorry its far more economical to use a cheaper brand regular for peice of mind.

This is all im my opinion mate.

I've never been confident enough to put semi-synth in, especially running 330 ish, but I can't fault Mick's logic of changing regularly (I always seem to agree 100% with what he says......)

I'm still going through some Group buy Fully Synth which was cheap. So I'm getting the best of best worlds really.

If you do go down the higher grade route then 10-50 or 10-60 seems to be the preferred grades.

i use motul 15-50 fully synthetic change every 3000 to 4000 miles wouldn't use semi synthetic on a new age for the sake of saving £15 £20! its worth paying the extra imo
