Default Money Grabbing Goverment!!

IMO has absolutely nothing to do with saving the environment or strengthening the economy

Its just another way of etting our hard earned cash (that we have to work more hours per week than the rest of europe to earn in the first place)

Surely they are fleecing us enough on the cost of petrol without sticking the boot in in 2009

Page 131 is the interesting bit

linky not working

but i couldnt agree more the government (whoever it is) will always tax the hell out of the regular working class, cos the doler's get away with no tax, and the upper classes dont give a crap, they're the ones dishing out donations to dirty MP's anyhoo.

so its us grafters that always suffer. down with government....lets propose a WYIOC party takeover. Tax on bad cars, like them prius things, and free petrol for subarus!

There was a thread in the general forum about this and I felt very strongly about it. Enojy my rant...

This is the main problem, industry. Not only producing cars but everything.
There was a program on Discovery the other day about global warming and a scientist in America did a study on the hamburger industry. He found that, when all added up the farming of the animals, production and selling of burgers accounted for more Carbon emmisions in 1 year than all the 4x4's in North America put together.

Imagine how much pollution comes from industry. Industries that produce things we all take for granted, like power companies, food manufacturing plants, toy manufacturers, clothing manufacturers etc etc. They are the main cause of the problem, not the automobile.

The humble car, despite how many there are and how big the engines are is only a tiny part of the problem. But even if cars do get greener (even sports cars and 4x4's) by using Bio fuels the Government will still tax us heavily. The reason: Because it's all about money, nothing to do with the environment.

I fail to see the logic (perhaps I have some kind of twisted mind) but if I'm paying £900+ to tax the car for 12 months I'm gonna get every single second / mile's worth out of the bugger, so my emissions will go UP!

Used prices are falling faster than the Hindenberg after the guy lit his last ciggy, so there's no point 'keeping the miles low' any more, it's worth sod all now, and I'll probably have to pay someone to take it off my hands in the not-too-distant...

Booze runs to the continent will become a little more common too.

Drive, drive, drive.

Just buy a 2000 model gas guzzling monster and only pay £200-ish...

LOL

DunxC

P.S. May lay mine up for a few months each year, just to spite the ruddy parasites...

The way I understand it for mine (being 219 Co2 rated I think) is that my road tax will be

2007 - £220
2008 - £300
2009 - £550
2010 - £310
then £310 until they increase it again!!

There is also going to be a 3p increase in petrol costs in 6 months time

It is just out and out robbery

There is no way in the world that an increase of £290/year will deter someone who wants to drive a nice car from driving it.
It has nothing to do with lowering emmissions, its the money grabbing government, fleecing me for working hard and having something nice to show for it!

3% of all co2 emmisions are man made, and cars account for about 2% of that

thats 2% of 3% = 0.06%!!!!!

Its just like a 3p increase on pints won't stop binge drinking!! deluded government
Lets see how many of them keep there nice cars and then claim it back through expenses at our cost again?

click on the image to enlarge. landy your car will be £300 this year then £310 next year. the £550 is a one off first year tax on a car in that band.

I'll keep my classic then As John found out (and was quite rightly shocked) I pay £25 less per year on tax for my classic Import WRX than he does on his hawkeye Sport.
