******
Woke up at 04:00 this morning to some noise, had a look outside and nowt doing so went back to bed and put it down to the cats. Couldn't get back to sleep though as last week 4 doors down were broken into and threatened with a knife for their car (which they got away with along with TV and other stuff). Then at 04:45 heard it again so got my trousers on and went down for a look to find kitchen light on and some ****** poking his head round the door. Shouted at him in no uncertain terms and he scambled out through the window and off he went.
I've not been sleeping easy following what happened last week and I doubt this is going to help.
Cops showed within 5 mins and were pretty good although they know they won't get him. Not sure if he was after the car or not, Clare's was blocking mine in AND had the security post up so he'd have been messing around for ages. At least it was some young lad on his own and not a tooled up bunch of guys, I think he was more scared than I was.
The **** threw me bleedin bananas in the garden as they were in the way - apart from that no damage just a bit of paint and **** Barratt window frame. He actually treated Clare's basil plant with lots of care and attention but I think it was more that he didn't want to break the pot and cause a commotion than been a green fingered type.
Still 33 and it's the first time I've been burgled (or attempted) and I've never had a car, wallet, phone nicked so I guess it was my turn.

Jesus!!!
Not sure if you'd put it down to a lucky escape or warning to improve window locks and general security.
On a lighter note, did I see you in Castleford yesterday, about 6:15?

A lucky escape so glad there wasn't an unhappy ending. Have a look around for some PIR approach lights but with wireless chimes. I have a couple covering my whole garden/drive and wouldn't be without them. I always know when someone's knocking around. Last time I needed one though it looked like B&Q were stopping selling them

Cheers everybody for the comments.
Al - Yeh Clare was calm and phoned the cops and hasn't told me I have to get rid of the car. tbh there were 2 other breakins last night here so just think they were in the area and after anything. The house on our street that was done last week had a golf diesel stolen.
Dave - Yeh good call although next door have one on front and t'otherside have one on back so kinda covered. I think a big dog would be best answer but don't think the cats would forgive me. Put extra window locks on all windows today - the crappy Barrett ones were pretty shocking. Also thinking of a very big cactus by each window, hopefully they'll use GM technology to make a Venus Chav Trap someday soon.
All car keys are always upstairs with me as are phone and wallet. If I'd have been 2 seconds later he'd have had Clare's phone & purse - she'll be keeping them upstairs now too.

I've got some 'My Car Keys Are safe' stickers... I'll bring them along to the Trackday... maybe a good idea to put on certain windows to show your keys are guarded by a baseball bat or 9 iron...

Just a thought, and maybe a bit of a daft one, but given the way things are going...
We all (most?) take our keys upstairs, or hide them somewhere safe at night, right?
So how about (and let's hope they'll never be needed) a 'spare' Subaru key hanging in a really conspicuous place, i.e. on a key rack just inside the front door, along with perhaps the house keys on the same nice Subaru keyring? ******* come fishing through the letterbox, or break in, get the keys and bugger off to nick the car...
only...
and here's the really clever bit m'laud...
They're NOT the keys for your car, they're from some scrapped / written off / whatever motor, and they don't fit. The keyfob doesn't work, the house keys don't fit you're door, etc. etc...
At the very least it'll hopefully buy you a bit of time, and perhaps the commotion being caused by the utterly befuddled I.Q. challenged morons outside might even wake you / the neighbours up.
Sometimes I amaze even myself. Dragons Den here I come...

"Good evening Dragons. I'm here today to ask for £1 million to develop the 'Sticky Fakie Keyhanger'
I will invest your money wisely, with just over 48p going into R&D, 21p into marketing and 31p into production in the far East. The small remaining balance would keep me in the manner to which I hope to become accustomed, an buy me and my mates several EvoX's
Thank you for your time, I would welcome any questions"

Or it could just blow the car up when they press the unlock button...
Knowing they'd pased themselves all over the county would surely soften the blow of having to replace the car?

Nope. Think you'll find that you're at work, and therefore you are being paid by your employers for all your thoughts until you clock off. If they'd buy you an Evo for letting them nick the idea then go wtih that, otherwise I think you'll find that mine is the best offer you're gonna get today

Hmm the only thing about the wrong key business is that they're totally going to **** the locks of the car trying to get in....and then probably key it out of spite. I have thought before though of having a random key fob on my real keys e.g. Lada then if they get mislaid anywhere they'll probably get handed in.
This plan was going pretty well until I remembered it says 'Subaru' on the key on one side and has the emblem on t'other. Still nearly was a good idea.

Utter Scum
Just glad you're OK.
Best is to fit an alarm and arm it for downstairs when you go to bed.
My parents had the same problem.
It only happend once more after the alarm was fitted, then the thieves moved on for an easier target...

Yep boys I've got an alarm and it's on every night since I bought the Scoob. It started going off when he opened the door, there's obviously a bit of a delay though. We went round and warned all the neighbours since it's happened on our street twice now and most of them didn't even know how to work them so the Mrs had to give them a crash course!

But seriously
How many more of these attempt on people's property are we going to have to tolerate before our scottish government does something about it or lets us do it ourselves without fear of being thrown in jail for protecting our own stuff!!!
Glad your OK
