Default First End of Month Meet of 2007 - 25th Jan @Squires Cafe

It's Another WYIOC New Year..

"Happy New Year!" That greeting was drunkenly uttered many times at midnight on the 31st, and will be for a few weeks in Jan as the New Year gets under way. But the day celebrated as New Year's Day in modern times was not always January 1.

The celebration of the New Year is the oldest of all holidays. In fact, and this may be difficult to believe, it’s older than Paul Crafts & Dave Carter put together…!! It was first observed in ancient Babylon about 4000 years ago. About 2000 years later, when Paul was a nipper playing with his first lump of coal, the Babylonian New Year began with the first New Moon on the first day of spring.

The beginning of spring is a logical time to start a new year as it’s the season of rebirth, of planting new crops, and of blossoming. It’s also the day when the WYIOC fair weather drivers come out of hibernation and start planning their spring summer runs… By this time the jaded hardcore winter members are now rugged and hardened and the cars usually show the signs of such demanding conditions and poor driving… Such as Stickies scuffed front. But I think this was genius driving. Why? Even at the roundabout entry speed obtained, Sticky managed to spot the Mitisi, assess that the other driver was a Policeman, take advantage of the sideways Mitsi, nudge the car.. spin him 360 and make it look like the other drivers fault!! All in the space of 4.876 seconds** Genius I tell thee.

But I digress, as usual.

The Babylonian celebrations lasted for eleven days. Each day had its own particular mode of celebration, but it is safe to say that modern New Year festivities pale in comparison. If we had similar modern day modes of celebration, I believe it would be just one big driving fest, pi55 up and the consumption of pasties.

The Romans continued to observe the in late March, but their calendar was continually tampered with by various Yorkshire folk who changed it suit the next party or remove Mon-thru Friday so we could get to the next weekend quicker.. the calendar soon became out of synchronization with the sun. I often wonder at JB’s synchronisation with reality as he continues attempting to revive this great Yorkshire tradition by writing his own days and nights by simply not sleeping throughout the week…Keep it up son..

In order to set the calendar right, the Roman senate, in 153 BC, declared January 1 to be the beginning of the New Year. Mick’s ancestors continued tampering until Julius Ceaser, in 46 BC, bribed them with Yorkshire pudding filled with beef, sausage, bacon and gravy.. and all was well.. This established the Julian Calendar. But in order to synchronize the calendar with the sun, Caesar had to let the previous year drag on for 445 days. If Stickie’s hands were anything to go by after being burnt by that firework fuse, then I’m sure his ancient ancestors could have offered to move the sun..

New Traditions - These include such things as making resolutions. Popular modern resolutions might include the promise to loose weight, quit crashing you car, spend more time sleeping, spend less money tinkering with your motor, not being tempted to the dark side, falling off the back of lorries and crushing Vertebrae D6 & D4.

Luck - Traditionally, it was thought that one could affect the luck they would have throughout the coming year by wishing it on other people… James – As the official WYIOC Unlucky mascot, good luck in getting some luck..

Subs – This is now a WYIOC tradition. Subs must be paid this month.. The new sub structure should be known, but if you don’t pay for a year by the EOM meet, then you run the risk of loosing the free facilities offered at the big five events this year and having to pay more throughout the year.. The cost of burgers & drinks alone at 2-3 of these events will cost you more than the yearly subs… you’ll get this all back and more in free grub, drinks and more importantly.. secure parking on the stand..

So, start the new year off in style and come along to the first meet in 2007…bring your subs money and a few Ł coins for the football charity cards..

2007 promises to be a stunning year for the club.. make sure you’re a part of it..

** Writers discretion to change all the facts….

Should (all being well) have the DVDs to dish out at the meet too. It's been an absolute mare and just when I was on the home straight doing the production run my DVD Writer said no more and died Still replacement is sat here and waiting to be whacked in so shouldn't be a prob. Just need to meet up with the lovely Aileen to get some snazzy covers done and we should be in business.

The original list for the DVDs are below anyone to add? If not I'll bring 15 along and we can have some spares.

Unhappy

There I was getting all excited about having my car back and being able to attend the first meet of the year, being able to start to repay although those lifts Simon has given me and then.....................................

I checked my new rota, only to find that I'm bloody working Doing 7am - 7pm Thursday and Friday so I'll only have a 12hr gap between the 2 and unlike JB I'm not able to get an entire nights sleep just by blinking my eyes, in fact I'm the opposite I need loads of

So sorry ladies and gentlepepes you're gonna have to manage without me

I'll be at the next one though

I'll be taking the laptop along (for other reasons) so if we can find a quiet corner we could have it running for the evening
