Main Meet 30th March

Main Meet 30th March
Before this months monthly meet we have the Mid Monther and Impromptu Fish & Chip evening.
I would like to point out that the typical fish & chip shop is usually run by a husband and wife team with part-time help and represents a tradition which goes back to the early days of the 19th century. Subaru's came a little later as one of the neccessary additions to owning a chippy. Charles Dickens, in his novel Oliver Twist, mentions a fried fish warehouse. I don't think it was Martins, but he does have an uncanny likeness to some of Dickens's characters... Mmmmm..
The development of the steam trawler and it's immediate decendent the Steam Powered Evo, brought to these shores fish from all over the North Atlantic. Did you know that the boot on the Evo is big enough to fit in 789 cod??? Such was the speed of these steam powered Evo's that Fish landed at Grimsby one day would be on sale in the most distant parts of the country several days later.
However, as can be expected the fried fish trade's greatest development was in the industrial cities of Scotland, the North of England and Midlands as well as London.I'd like to add that the Midlands is by far the better place for Fish & Chips with Yorkshire a close but still distant second. Also, I wouldn't have Fish & Chips from any shop that only seconds ago took a fried Mars Bar from the same fryer.
A characteristic feature of most popular English holiday resorts are the fried fish shops, cafes and restaurants, something which has now spread to the Mediterranean coast of Spain and other overseas resorts. Martin's shop in Castelford is very nice, but I'd struggle to agree that Cas was a holiday resort akin to the sunny Med... But those living there may disagree.
Even today, with many competitive products being offered in the take-away and fast food trades, the traditional British fish and chip shop is still the leader in this particular field. Big mac or a Martin Cod Special??? No contest there...
It is true that there has been considerable diversification by the trade into other products - pies, chicken and hamburgers etc. But the extra special Fryer Martin's just had installed means that even these nourishing meals are cooked to perfection... Obviously this movement into non fish products is needed to retain a competitive price structure. To extend its product range too far will inevitably destroy that feature of its trading which has always been its strength. Therefore you won't see Cat or Puppy on his menu.. Oh no.
The National Federation of Fish Friers was founded in 1913 to watch over the interests of its members' specialist trade. Martin's card reads... 0006, so this gives some indication of his age.. But he doesn't look a day over 30.
The stats say that 60,000 tonnes of fish and 500,000 tonnes of potatoes are sold in the 9,000 fish shops around the country with a total turnover of over £650M. Quickly knocking some figures out means that.... hang on..
So Martin sells 6.6 Tonnes of fish & 56 Tonnes of spuds and makes how much ?? We should hope to see a Gallardo in the car park soon and I'll be his next competitor... He may also be looking to move into the Oracle Database arena by buying the odd consultancy company...
Martin.. All the very best in the new shop mate and we'll have a little impromptu soon..
If you want to find out about the differences in Lard & Beef dripping, or the nutritional value of your avergae Pie, piece of Cod or 'Cheesy chips'... then come along to the Main meet and meet the main man himself...
Normal place, normal time and with the usual convoys... easy really.

Al, I was just wondering if your fingertips ache when you finish writing these little stories you seem to get a little carried away with these anecdotes
As I no longer have a car do I still qualify to say "I would like to come to the next meet but I'll probably be working" or not
I'll defo see you on the track day though

Daz.. I can pick you up mate.. so you're welcome to the Mid monther...
Gone!! Did you sell her? Or is she being fixed?
I know you were talking about it..
It's become a little tradition to knock something up about one of the team on the Main Month thread... Maybe you're next

They've got her indoors and will start stripping the bent stuff off this week.
Unlikely to be ready for this Thursday's meet and it all depends on how quick they can get stuff in from Subaru and Iain Litchfield..
Few bright sides...
I can show you this class Polo I'm currently driving
The car will look better than before (small scuffs and chips removed)
New spoiler
It's saving me a fortune in Petrol

I could always "look after" her for you when she's back on the road .................
As long as you don't mind a bit of wear & tear [ready for the scrappers] when you get her back

So, having read and digested all of this thread, entitled "Main Meet 30th March" I see bugger all reference to said meet.
...well, very little, anyway...
For the uninitiated, what, where, when, who, why?

The trawler seems to have drifted off course and turned into part of the impromptu fee and chee night on thursday the 23rd.
see here Fee & Chee
gold star to me for understanding

Dear 'o' dear. I do my normal transendental digression and the wheels come off the car.. Luckily no ice is involved and all we have is a few souls wandering lost and confused amongst the SNET wastelands at relatively low speed and therefore the damage is minimal and just superficial.
All I need do is point you to the 'Club Details - Venue & Events' sticky on the main thread where you will find all the detail you need to get you back on lifes track...
i.e. This thread is for the Monthly meet with normal times for both convoys, meeting place and time, i.e Holmfield at 7 with main meet starting at 7:30 at the Foxglove etc etc etc... With the other impromptu Fish & Chip meet being more than covered on the aptly titled 'Impromptu Fish & Chip Nite' thread.
Hope this helps any lost, confused or similarly challenged souls find the right path..
Disclaimer: If I have cocked up and someone finds a little continuity error... then I would like to say that age is cruel msitress and apart from taking your good looks away (not in my case of course, I've just got more suave & sophisticated) and forcing you to dodge the style Police daily, she has a tendency to relieve you of a few brain cells without you noticing. Our elder statesman Chris (who is older than me BTW) will be able to explain in a far more elequant way than I. Sticky, Mick and possibly Dave Carter will also be able to shed some light.. if they've not forgotten what I'm on about..
So.. I think we're all clear...
