The West Yorkshire IOC - 'Find a new home' thread...
The WYIOC meet at the Trading Post
Each month on the last Thursday
To stand around and look at cars
It's fun, in an odd kind of way
It used to be the Fenay Bridge
That hosted our little meet
But that changed hands and folks were told
It'll be hours before you can eat
So off we set, our task was clear
We must find a better pub
Somewhere with a large car park
That served nice drinks and grub
Our search was thorough, long and hard
Many places we did sample
But one shone out above the rest
It's car park was more than ample
The beer was nice, the menu large
It's manager seemed quite a host
So a deal was done, we'd move our home
To the Castleford Trading Post
Six or seven months went by
And light nights did arrive
So plans were made to go out for
A spirited country drive
This run out then sowed a seed
The Trading post had lost it's fun
We needed somewhere further afield
To allow us a monthly 'run'
'Cos things weren't right at the TP
Something drastic was amiss
The service was poor, as was the food
And the beer didn't taste very nice either
And so with expectations high
We hand ourselves this taks (innit)
To find a place a little further West
Somewhere round Cleckhuddersfax
With cracking roads to get there by
And smashing food to nosh
And ample space to park and chat
Let's hope it's not too posh
'Cos with meets going from strength to strength
And our numbers clearly growing
We need somewhere that understands
That Scoobies are mind blowin' <--- Look, I can be nice about 'em
Okay, so maybe they're quite loud
When out thrashing for our blasts
But deep down we're a decent bunch
Of flat-four enthusiasts
We're well behaved, we'll do our best
to ensure that we don't tarnish
Any potential future hopes
Of getting home cooked chips (with garnish) <--- groan
I'm going now, as you can see
My rhymes are getting crap
So let the PUB IDOL search begin
Now, where'd I put that map?
Thankyou
So.....
With Al taking delivery of his new delightful piece of burblyness (that's a point, Al, will it still burble or has it got ELH's??????)
I digress...
...and Steve getting his new Emma, it has been suggested that a little impromptu meet be held at the Holmfield Arms on Wednesday evening. Just a little gathering to drool over the new hardware and perhaps discuss what steps have been taken to re-locate the club's base
Any excuse for a pub meet
All those who may possibly be attending make yourselves known...
I'll (hopefully) be there, but may have to bugger off early as the missus does her thing on Wednesdays
Al's gonna be there 'cos that's where his car's being delivered to...
Dazza has no excuse as he lives 3 minutes away
Steve, we need to see Emma in the flesh, so to speak

Thers was a young man called Buck.
Who liked a mid morning.. Mmm. Maybe not the place Or anywhere near as good!!
OK..
Just spoke to a guy at 'Cubley Hall'.. A rather nice sounding pub out in Cubley, Just South of Penistone on the Mortimer Rd... Map..
Mein Host will be calling me back tomorrow, but it appears they have a room we can book for meets... The car park takes 100 cars and it is noted in the AA 2005 pub guide for its food and beer and has 4 out of 5 Diamonds...... Avg Maincourse is £7.50..
It is a free house with childrens facilities..and has a cool sounding beer garden..
I've also found that the UK MX5 OC meet there on the first Tuesday..
Link to the AA guide.. http://www.theaa.com/pubs/97342.html
Anyone been there??? Comments?

That looks a lovely place Al, just the sort I was thinking of. Only downside I can see is it's another 10 miles further south than Fenay. Great for the planned link-ups with S.Yorks and SMACS and right slap bang on the edge of some stunning roads (Woodhead/Strines/Snake etc). Deffo needs a visit and put to the vote

Looks and sounds superb.
But am I talking about the pub or the zorst?
Neither. Steve's just been over in his little monster. Fill in the blanks in the following...
F * * K M * !!!!!!!
BTW, pub looks ideal

PS. Yup - been to Cubley Hall last year for a do. Not bad at all! Good car park, nice historic setting, decent ale.
Only slight 'issue' is, Penistone is SOUTH Yorkshire..... There again, there are some pretty decent roads to & from most of our setting-off points, so I'm not complaining....

Nice one Paul..
We've tried going North Leeds before as we looked for an initial base, and again when we moved form the FB.. but the mainfeedback was that getting through Leeds was a problem for the majority who seem to be on the South Side.. Plus, it was felt that meeting up with the South Yorks or Manchester Lads would be made that more difficult....
Everytime we've discussed a move or runs, they always end up South..
I'm happy either way and if the popular vote is to go 'North', then that's fine by me.. Any way.. the main selling word in your post was 'Bacon'

South seems to be more convenient for the majority of folk in the club. Moreover, there are some fine drivin' roads within easy reach, either on the way or as a separate jaunt, especially now the summer months is a comin'.
Incidentally, now that South Yorks has been officially recognised as a Republic, do we qualify for VAT-free scran? Or maybe even duty-free Timmy Taylors....

Al & I have chosen a nice tangerine, with lemon highlights and peppermint dado... At least, that what I think he said Katrina had asked for......

The car can, but I think Bubba would struggle to do more than a couple of hours away from muppets
Al, can you find out if this new place has a wireless t'internet connection, then he can bring his lappy.
C'mon Bubba, Intel invented the centrino for moments just like this
