API recommend a modified OIL pump to be fitted at the same time but thwaites say its not needed but say the teeth sometimes break and offer a replacement on that!?!? both come in at same price(ish). Never tried thwaites (even though I have heard only good things about them) but I have tried Api and foresters (bilston), both provide a good service.

Nope API do not recommend a water pump to be fitted, we don't even recommend a tensioner.
Dunno where you got that idea from mate. There are no teeth on a water pump.....

That's strange as it was you who recommended a modified pump be fitted while the cambelt was being done at over £100 if my memory serves me right. It was Thwaites who mention broken teeth (not on pump). If I have got my wires crossed about a modified pump please enlighten me as that's how I remember it.

I may be looking for someone to do a front crank seal and cambelt on my V3 STi. Looking at the price for just the cambelt can I assume it would just be a few bob more to do the seal too?

For API
Sorry David our you saying when doing a timing belt just fit the belt and dont worry about the tensioner. My own car (hawk WRX)is 4 years old but only 20k so was originally going to replace the belt and tensioner
Whats wrong with the standard Subaru oil pump??
Thanks Chris

For the small extra cost of sorting it out you can save engine aggro in the future.
The later colour dotted [ blue or green ] tensioners are much better than the early un-dotted ones. which tended to lose pressure quite easily. We probably fit a tensioner one in every 10 we do. Same story at the 'Clinic, once every so often.
