If you know him can you give him a slap
It was degrading just watching it happen 
Edited to say that i thought impreza's had more than 1 or 2 gears or are you supposed to drive them at 5k rpm @ 20mph
if so mine must be a special edition cos it has 5 forward and 1 reverse
