"SECOND MAN IS SHOT IN 24 HOURS
by HANNAH COLLIER and JO MASON
POLICE have launched a hunt for a gang in a red car after the second random shooting in a Burton pub in 24 hours.
Conrad Thomas, 37, became the latest victim of an indiscriminate airgun attack as he played pool at the Trafalgar Inn, in Waterloo Street, Burton, at 10.15pm, on Wednesday night. He was shot in the back and needed treatment at Burton's Queen's Hospital.
The shooting came just 24 hours after former Staffordshire Regiment soldier Richard Orme, 21, was shot in the face by a pellet from what police believe was also a 'high powered' rifle or shotgun as he drank in the Oddfellows Arms, in Uxbridge Street, at 11.20pm on Tuesday.
Mr Orme, who now works as a scaffolder, was transferred to the Derbyshire Royal Infirmary for surgery to remove the pellet from his cheek and was only discharged yesterday.
Police are linking the two shootings which have come less than a month after a woman was shot in the stomach as she drank in the Duke of York pub in Victoria Street.
Burton police spokesman Peter Stevens said both men were lucky to have escaped serious injury and that police were hunting the occupants of a red car, possibly a Subaru or similar, seen near both incidents."
