Paul - pass ....
Hmm - I used to be the technical adviser to Club VR6 and may have a few other ideas for you! Put it this way - my car had 230bhp and 240lb/ft of torque .... and I hadn't even taken the cylinder head off at that point!!

Best Filter I found was a custom size from RamAir (I think it was an Escort Cossie fitment) - sourced via Automotive Developments in Bicester (very good)! Induction snort was amazing - sounded like a TVR ....
Problem with K&N is that it makes the induction tract shorter - when you actually want to lengthen it slighly for torque ....
AmD's chip, throttle body enlargement and filter will wake it up both at the bottom and top of the rev range - giving about 200bhp and 210lb/ft torque. Uprated vibratechnics front engine mount also excellent - stops lurch as you jump on the throttle out of corners and transmits almost nothing into the cabin!
After that it's Koni suspension, uprated brakes (well discs and pads to start with), Miltek exhaust, Shrick Cams, Big Valve Heads, Variable inlet manifolds, Supercharger etc .... Mmmmm

Well she has a start with Koni adjustables & uprated discs & pads. I don't think I'll be going wild on it though because it's her car That's interesting about the airfilter though. I've already arranged to buy the k&n though and it's cheap so I'll just see what's it's like.
Thanks
Paul

I had VR6 and at first fitted a K&N but then fitted Ramair and it was a hell of a lot better, but see how you get on.
I found Koni's to be too hard and made the car rattle itself to bits so don't go too hard!!

Little'un - with the Eibach springs, very stiff - with the Koni Spring and Damper kit - much better!
Fronts should be set on 0.5 to 1 turn for road use rears 0.25 to 0.5. On track went to 1.75 turns front and 2 turns rear!

I wish I had'nt messed with my VR6 - i took it to TSR and they fecked it up big style, Spent £6000 with them and on getting the car back had nothing but problems with it and on the dyno only showed 25bhp more than standard...after having Shrick Cams, 2.9 conversion, Ramair, decat exhaust plus other bits...sold it last year for a loss.

The ride with the konis seems really good at the moment but I haven't played with the settings yet. Are the rears top adjustable?
I have only heard good things about TSR but I would expect a bigger incease than that for the money
The VR is a very car though

Not sure if the rears are top adjustable, can't remember, i've modded so much on my last couple of cars I get confused!
I would definitely have another VR6 cos they are a great car made for motorway mile munching and like the gearbox and engine. My boyfriend's parents have a mark2 golf from new and is a g plate. It has done silly mileage like 450,000 miles on two engines and no other major parts - mind you it's not great to drive now keeps dropping water..but it's done damned well.

Paul/Little'un
I had my first VR6 when they were still fairly new - so I actually played a part in developing bits for them with AmD and a few other companies - so got a serious discount on most of the bits.
TSR were very good on the Mk1's and 2's but frankly were a bit out of their depth on the Mk3 onwards - hence I paid slightly more and had AmD do the work.
My spec was as follows:
Radius R1 Wheels with 215/40ZR16 Tyres
Custom Made 320 x 30mm Two pot Alcon Discs and bells with Race/Road pads (motorsport application so the pads were easy to swap).
Blackdiamond Drilled and Grooved Rears with Ferodo Racing Pads
Vibratechnics Engine Mounts (all 3)
Vibratechnics Racing Suspension Bushes All round
Vibratechnics Wishbone and Subframe Bushes
Eibach Springs
Eibach Strut Braces Front and Rear
Front and Rear Top Adjustable Dampers
Mocal 20row Thermostatic Oil Cooler
Shrick Cams
AmD Custom Chip (I had them raise the rev limit to 7,300 and halved the throttle response maps).
AmD Big Throttle Body
RamAir Escort Cosworth Cone Filter
Remus Exhaust
Shrick VSR (variable inlet manifold)
Recaro Racing Seats
Deutchcar Rear Diffuser
Hella Twin Lamp Conversion
etc
I achieved 230bhp @ 6,900 rpm and 240lb/ft of Torque at 3,500rpm - not bad for a 2.8 that had had it's head off. I could have gotten anouther 10-15 bhp and 10lb/ft of torque with the Shrick Big Valve head - but that was another £2K ....
Was fast enough around Castle Coombe for one of the instructors to tell me that it was the nicest road car he had ever driven round the track and could out brake a 911 .....
If you know anyone with 16" wheels who wants a big brake kit for peanuts .... give me a shout (it's still in the garage)!

AMD had my car four times in all trying to sort out the mess that TSR created and I must say that Jeff (I think that was his name) was extremely helpful in trying to set my car up using their dyno and spend hours and did'nt charge me what he should. He agreed as per your comments that MK3 golfs had TSR way out of their depth as Tim Stlyes has no dealer technical know-how on these and so I was the guinea pig for Kent cams originally going in my car!!
Still - learnt a lesson the hard way..

Little'un - Yup it's Geoff Everett and now you mention it I think I remember seeing and discussing your car!
Mike Devine - his old partner and fomer racer did all the suspension set up and mods to get it to the trackday / fast road car balance I ended up with!
As you say - you live and learn ....
