Beaten by MG ZS 180 – who was it?
#1
My mate claims to have 'beaten' an older silver UK Scoob yesterday afternoon in Hertfordshire/North London area.
I can't condone the behaviour, but I was a little surprised.
I guess it must have been a rolling start thing.
Was it you?

Although it wasn't me, I have had both cars on the track and can honestly say the MG felt nowhere near as fast or to handle as well as the scooby. For the price it is a good fun motor, but MG still need to do more to start attracting the likes of the scooby/RS/TypeR owners. You pays your money and takes your choice

LOL!! well you have to laugh at that, its in hot hatch territory is the MG (even though its a large saloon) but sorry, think its not really capable of beating a scoob, not even a uk one...

Is he sure he beat a Turbo rather than just a Sport or std. GX/whatever?
Or perhaps the Scoob had 5 people in and a load of luggage in the boot versus his lonesome? Rolling start sounds a bit likely though.

Spoken to him again – it definitely happened, although 'beating' turns out to mean getting 2/3 of a length ahead along a dual carriageway.
Reckons they were both doing around 15-20mph before they started.
I have driven his car and agree with all the other comments made about it.

Oh well then, if thats what 'beating' is all about - I totally 'beat' a brand new Porsche Turbo last week in my 1.3 Ford Festa I guess that guy has just wasted £80k
Slap your m8 and tell him to wake up !

Spoken to him again. It definitely happened, although 'beating' actually involved getting about 2/3rds of a length ahead along a dual carriageway, between roundabouts.
He estimates they were both doing around 20mph at the start (don't want to know the finishing speed!)
Apparently it looked like an early standard silver UK Turbo, not a Sport.
Agree in general with comments about the MG ZS 180, I used to drive one for a while.Surprisingly good handling and performance though, and only same weight as classic Scoob, but overall not in the same league.

LOL T5NYW - I think you could be right. My seat is fine - wonder why yours went wobbly
If anyone is curious - a standard UK MY00 seat weights in at 18.7kgs -YES 18.7!! Swap the seats and the BHP/tonne will take a hike
I had the MG ZS round Croft a couple of weeks back - stayed on the tarmac this time!

I drive (hard) my 180 every day and often get the chance to 'play' with Scoobs (excluding 2.0 sports!) . At no point have I ever 'had' one - the best I can hope to do is keep up round the twisty bits which to the 180's credit for a front wheel drive car with less BHP it does pretty damned admirably. I've even been given a wave or a flash of the old hazards once or twice once we've stopped playing.
the maths just doesnt add up to even imagine you could out drag a scoob unless it was being driven by Miss Daisy.

The Scooby's so nice to drive I don't care when that happens to be honest. Just let them past. Unless they really don't deserve it (by being ar53holes/really bad drivers/making hand signals), in which case I can get tempted to blast past them later on occasion if it's a safe option, making sure I keep a good distance if they're looking like being bad drivers.
