Default Rod bearing spun in 04 WRX. Parts for engine build needed, crankshaft, rods, bearings

Hi.

Not the most interesting first post over here but what the heck

I had my car tuned and dynoed last friday and guess what.. yes you already know.. knock knock ..

had the car on a trailer back home, engine was out 2 days ago and today i got the crankshaft out... spun bearing on 4th cylinder, and the other 3 was very worn to. very strange, oil and filter was only 500km.

**** happens.

Now im looking for parts to build a new shortblock. (blocks, heads and pistons are ok)

Crankshaft, rods and bearings (ACL bearings) to fit my EJ205 is what im looking for at the moment.

Im not to familiar with this engine internals, does STi crankshaft fit? STi-rods?

Car is a 2004 WRX 2.0, Swedish sold.

/ Mattias, Sweden

Mattias,

Firstly welcome to scoobynet.

You'll be able to source all you need from either of thesr two:

http://www.rogerclarkmotorsport.co.uk Ask for Tom or Olly

or

http://www.lateralperformance.co.uk Ask for Mark

Either of these offer a top notch service with very quick delivery.

I have a new crank to fit the phase 2 (rear thrust) block if interested ?

It has some slight surface discolouration from storage but not rusty or anything !

I also have a set of newage rods, were yours damaged when it spun the bearing ?

Is the crank brand new with 0 miles?

Is the rods used? Yes, the one with the spun bearing is history.

As far as I know the crank has never been used.

The rods are from a 2003 WRX engine that I bought for spares.

Just remember how much of a pain in the **** it would be building an engine with a crank you buy second hand and when you fire it up it rattles.

It's been seen on here plenty of times when people have used reground cranks etc.

It will not only cost you time but money too as you'll need to replace gaskets and seals.

That's not to say that the crank offered above is not fine but I'd want to know for sure before building an engine with it in.

After a spun bearing a new crank, new oil pump and new oil modine is an absolute must in my eyes. Taking the cheap option sometimes costs you more in the long run.

Youre absolutley right daz. I dont feel confident with putting a grinded crank in.

Do you know if there's a nitrided crank in all of the 2006 sti (hawk) ? Or is it just an upgrade part from subaru?

If it's a UK STi '06, I'd expect it to be a 2.5lt crank. Would suit a 2.1lt build !

We have the STi 9 cross drilled/Nitrided cranks in stock, ACL race bearing, rods, etc'.

Mark.

Well, its a 2,5l swedish sold STi .. i thought the crank was the same as mine? Someone told me that it was only the bore that was different in 2.5l.

But as i read .. 2,5l has a 79mm stroke and 2.0l 75 .. im stupid
