That car is fitted with a plastic header tank which has a non return valve in one of the inlet/outlet pipes. About £65 from Roger Clark Motorsport or secondhand from API LTD but they have a tendency to break at the top pipe boss so secondhand is a bit dodgy.
I have a zinc die cast item from a later Subaru that has no non return valve.
£40 posted "Special Delivery" inclusive of Paypal.

will the zinc one you mention bolt in standard poss on side of inlet manifold and tie in with all the pipes/hoses?

its just that im a little tight for space.... engine bay was only designed for a 1.6 aircooled beetle engine so am pushing the space to the limits..lol

and yes my tank blew the top breather hose boss clean off...

The zinc die cast header tank will take up a similar space to the platic O/E.
It is a common and easy mod on early WRX/STi Subarus and the pipes fit OK but in a VW engine bay is not something I have ever tried.
