Can A Version 6 (1999) ECU Be Re-Mapped??
I've been out of the performance ~ tuning side for a while now so appologies if a stupid question
I've just bought a 2 door version 6 STi with a 2.2 engine and a few nice touches. The only engine mods are a downpipe, de-cat and Pro-Drive exhaust, i think i have an Apexi (or similar) panel filter there somewhere that i could also fit.
If this isn't mappable does anyone have a suitable ECU for sale?
Dave.

I did Dylan but then sent it to Germany sorry matey as it wasn't quite what i'd want to ride around in at that money. As i am now getting old i prefer something a little more comfortable
I have bought a car that's almost identical at half the cost but with pretty much all the right bits............... i shall try and add some pics
It needs a little tidying up in places but will make a nice car!
I'll have a shifty at the ECU, would you be able to tell by the numbers Ian?
Dave.

Yes you can tell by the numbers on the box. If it's had a 2.2 fitted it may well have a trick ECU with added goodness

Many thanks for all the answers lads, much appreciated!! Ill need to pop the ECU out and have a look
Ty, I'm home at the moment but give me a call and I'll pop over to the unit and open up. I'm only catching up on my accounts so would need to rest my old brain and it'll be nice to see you!
I'm on the other side of the estate now so don't go to the old unit as I'm not there

Hi Dave the 99 type r is an ecutec ecu which is mappable, chances are if someone's put a 2.2 in her that it's been mapped already. As kev says an aftermarket ecu to bypass the maff is a good option a had so many maffs go on my type r but that was an apexi ecu and cut the engine completely if it goes, but ecutec will get you home if it goes. Be good to see another type r around the South Wales region but a 22b would of been awesome

If it's running a panel filter the MAF shouldn't cause to many problems, although going mafless is well worth it IMO.
Btw just because the ECU may look standard doesn't mean it is, my classic had a simtek but was inside the standard ecu casing.
Standard V5/6 ECUs can be mapped by ecutek (which requires a license) or via software call open source, as a few have said if its running a 2.2 it probably/should of been mapped.
